We broke our medal duck today with a bronze! Woo! It's not just the "ball hog" mentality. They're all very good players, but no matter how level-headed they are there's this belief that they can beat everyone else. Now they just got that taken away from them, and it's up to them to respond. China with 10 golds already. Eeeeeeeeep. |

Wooohooo! Ian Thorpe wins the title he should have won in Sydney in the 200m free final. I set my alarm for 2:40am this morning to watch it, and it was a pretty good race in the end. The Flying Dutchman had the first half, but Thorpedo powered home for the gold. Despite his trumpeting, Phelps was never in it to win it but took out the third. And there was a stage yersterday where the Aussies were on top of the medal count for the first time in 100 years!!! Tris |

Wow. Canada is doing TERRIBLE this year. I'm really hoping that our rowing will pick up soon. Normally that is one of our fortes. I've heard good things about our weight lifting team right now. They aren't stupendously good, but have an advantage over other nations based on the stoutness of one of the members.

Damn, that's a lot of medals. Do they usually win around that many? I didn't watch the olympics 4 years ago and I wasn't interested it at all

Rowing will get us like 7 or 8 medals. Hell of a strength for us but I think we'll do better than 14... - Felicien's almost a lock for something in the 100m hurdles. - We could get 3 more medals from our divers. - Our men's baseball team is kicking butt. And we always end up grabbing a few extras here and there... so yeah. 20 would be awesome but we'll see. Oh, almost forgot... we hate to lose. Finished 5th in the 4x200m relay final today and... "I'm pissed off," Rick Say told CBC after the race. "I wanted a medal in this race. It's unacceptable, us not winning a medal. This is crap." |

There are some pretty damn young skilled swimmers out there. Particularly that 15 year old Hungarian kid, Daniel Gyurta. Also, it was kind of a downer that the American Men's Beach Volleyball team lost today. But, I did enjoy watching USA earn the gold medal for the relay. That was awesome. Yep, this year, I'm keeping a close eye on the 'Lympics. Especially boxing.

They actually showed a really good boxing match on CBC tonight to kill time, I assume... Bedak (Hungary) vs. Martinez (Mexico). Bedak won 36-27 and the match was basically a slugfest. Great stuff. Canada's not doing so bad actually... Tough loss for one of our guys in the first round but he drew... THE CUBAN. |

WHOO! Domincan team beat US in Women's Indoor Volleyball! Now THAT's amazing. I believe the score of the final round was 19-17. Domincan Republic, ranked #13 in the world, hasn't even been in the Olympics before, their arrival to Athens being a miracle, beat the US, ranked #1 in the world, in the sport.

Yeah, I just watched the conclusion of that. Anyways, I was wondering...when did beach volleyball become an Olympic event? |

Toxic: Phelps stepped down from the relay today to allow someone else a chance at a gold medal. Phelps had already competed in the heats, so he received a gold medal anyways. Final total: 6 gold, 2 bronze. Canada... oy... we need help. Seriously. I'm hoping for a good haul early this morning in the rowing but this is absolutely dreadful. Heck, maybe our beach volleyball teams can advance to the semis tomorrow. ...OK, our women are facing Kerri Walsh and Misty May. That's a guaranteed loss I fear. But still. |
