...Um, excuse me? The Summer Olympics kick ASS. Especially when you have 900 hours of coverage in Canada. Winter rocks too, don't get me wrong. They equally do. But come on... Soooooo much variety. I'm pumped. |

Watching the ceremony right now... it was live on CBC at 1 PM and they're doing the replay now. Good commentary as always with the cameras on the Canadian team for a loooooooong time. Same as always - 16 "official" days, plus two days before the Olympics (Archery and soccer qualifying). They end on the 29th. |

Originally posted by Colleen I'm doing exactly that, CBC to. Lots of Canadians, yay. But yeah, I actually prefer the winter Olympic actual events, but the ceremonies are better in the summer. I guess its easier at that time without the snow, to you know, prepare, display. (edited by GbBoy on 08-14-04 12:08 AM) |

...You could logically say that about any country. We're not going out there to beat the United States and we know it. Last time in Sydney we had 14 medals and I honestly think we can improve on that - 20 would be an excellent performance. |

Why can't we just start a stupid rivalry? Anyway, I have no clue how many medals US got last games. Do you know? |

I think that we set some kind of record for the most medals won in one games. Colleen: You seem informed, perhaps you could tell me. |

What. The. Crap. Puerto Rico beats the US, 92-73. Yes, in basketball. I only caught the second half but they were listless the whole time. They seemed to play with some urgency in the beginning of the fourth quarter (when they cut it down to eight) but it was just too much. NO TAKING GAMES OFF. Morons. Good thing this is the preliminaries. |

You didn't set a record last time, I don't think... Off the top of my head it was between 90-100. Team USA DOWN. Commentary on CBC: "It's a 17-point lead, for crying out loud! By Puerto Rico!" PR looked awesome (you hear that, Anya? ) and I did love that 3-pointer right at the end to rub it in. Like Brown said, the team's had the same mentality since Day 1, and if they don't smarten up... I personally think Lithuania's going to cream them regardless of how they do up to that game. |

Originally posted by Comrade General Toxika however, i believe now he can only settle for 7...but there is supposedly drama swirling around teh U.S. Swim Team Anyways, as for the creaming of PR of US, well--it looks like they are going to have to now work at winning a gold medal instead of just going through the motions... |

He can settle for 8 total medals, no? (Is that a record? Dunno if Spitz got 8 in one Olympics, regardless of color...) Either Team USA wakes up from that loss to Puerto Rico or they start playing extremely cautiously and get burned. One or the other. |

I'm surprised America's only got 1 gold medal so far. http://www.athens2004.com/en/OlympicMedals/medals I'm surprised at how many medals have been given out already. |

God damn, what the hell happened to our basketball eliteness? I'll tell you why we're not "invincible" anymore. It's because the team is filled with damn ball hogs and showboaters. It's like everyone is trying to make a name for himself instead of working as a team. But even still, Puerto Rico had a great team so it's not really THAT embaressing. It wouldn't surprise me if Italy takes this thing. They have a really great team put together. Hell, most countries are kicking ass this year. Finally, basketball in the Olympics is getting good. So far, for total medals, it's a three way tie between the U.S., Australia, and China. But for gold medals alone, China is in the lead. EDIT: Ok, I take that back. I was using CNN's SI medal page which is outdated. Use the one in the post above me for more accurate results. (edited by Comrade Leejnikov on 08-16-04 06:51 AM) |

Eh, yeah I saw that on the news about Puerto Rico beating the U.S. They've got a good team together. Damn ballhogs and showboaters. This morning the news was mentioning that some of the better players didn't want to come to the games because of security reasons and all that which sucks. Most of the people of the team are used to being the center of attention so they need to get it together. I should actually watch it instead of watching the stuff on the news at night. |
