FFVII is a little overrated but I still like the game. Even though I've never beat it before (played it though). The only real character I like out of the whole game is Vincent Valentine because he could transform into different beasts.

I never got Vincent when I played

i do agree the game is overrated because it is essentially this was the game that finally put final fantasy on the map in terms of the video gaming world. Sure, FF released 3 versions in the U.S. but it was FF7 that actually hooked people onto the series once and for call. So, I'd have to give credit to 7 for that.

Otherwise, i dunno. The graphics were so so (minus the CG) and the game play was alright. I prefer 4 characters over 3...but 5 characters is way too much (i believe FF4 gives that right?)

Everybody fair warning: If you are faint of heart about hearing FF7 being putdown, walk away.

FF7 was only MEDIOCRE. It had below average story. Crappy sound. And for the time which it was made it had some bad graphics. I seriously can't stand to sit myslef down and play this below average game.

FF8 was way underated. FF6 is possibly the best if not the best.

Meh a small little rant that I made.

Oh yes, this flash sums up FF7 in a few minutes. http://www.weebl.jolt.co.uk/ff7.htm

FF7 was excellent for its time.

What people can't seem to wrap their minds around is that there's far far far FAR better available nowdays.

Beg your pardon? The story was far too predictable, thus being probably why he said it was below average. And this IS the truth, 95% of the plot was completely obvious to most people, give or take 5%.

And the graphics... Look at the character graphics in town. Seriously look at them. Horrible. There are some good points with the graphics, but rather than put the added effort into bringing up the quality of graphics that you have to see all the time, they merely let them be, hoping for the fanboys not to notice. Some of the other graphics are well done, as I said. But the characters outside of battle just look awful.

And he didn't say it sucks, he said it's MEDIOCRE (capitalized and put in a larger font because you obviously didn't see it the first time). Two different things.

Think before posting...

Sorry? My point was that he said something about a game, without even saying anything to prove what he was saying. At least, you said something that could prove what you said, but he didn't. Don't ask me to think before posting, because you obliously didn't get my point at all.

Yes I think it is overrated. But it is still a godly game. There are games now that exceed it.

Well take a look at Mario 64 almost same time, just different consoles. Mario 64 looks so much better.(meh they switched from N64 to PSX that's why I compared it to Mario 64) Final Fantasy 6 has much better sound then Final Fantasy 7. IMO the gameplay was better too. Final Fantasy Seven was just boring. Fun is a great Factor for me also. If there is no fun there is no game. It felt more like a chore to go around picking up the little items needed to progress. The point of raising chocobos is nonexistant all you have to do is beat emerald and ruby weapon and you get a gold chocobo without any WORK. There were so many things wrong with this game I can't seem to point them all out right now.

square defected from Nintendo because they liked the CD-ROM format Sony was offering instead of getting the entire game to work in only 12 to 20MB?

so yeah, it is sorta expected that the first game of a new system isn't going to do well..or isn't going to have a that much of a warm reception? FFX and FFIV are exceptions since they continued with the cartridge->cartridge or optical->optical...

Reid, I was up with you until yuo claimed FF7 had ". Crappy sound." WHA? Are you INSANE? Aerith's theme and OWA are two of Nobuo's best pieces, Yes FF6 has a superior OST but FF7's is FAR from crappy

I think the graphics weren't bad for their time, the mixture of pre rendered backgrounds worked well.

I'd give more credit to the Aeris Theme if it was more than a Remix version of The Opera Theme from 6.

One Winged angel was rad, and i grooved to teh theme in Costa Del Sol. Other than that, i was pretty unimpressed.. Also i kinda dug the airship theme, but that also sounded like other FF songs ive heard..

Aerith's theme, a Remix of the Opera? Hmm... it sounds a bit similar to the aria, but the opera is one of Nobuo's best works ever and nothing can match up to it. What made Aerith;s theme for me was the entire atmosphere and the circumstnaces. It's the first bit of VG music I've shed a tear to.

I liked the game. If you followed all the stories it was a great storyline. If you don't understand it, then it probably seemed meh. When I realized the whole Seph, Zack, Cloud thing, it threw me off for a bit, but then I realized how awesome it was.

Kario: Do you know how to read minds? I was thinking about posting that this morning. Really, what makes Fanboys idiot is when they probably didn't understand the whole thing. Or anyone who say that the plot is crappy and didn't understand the whole thing.

Exactly. It's real fun to think about how different things can be. Some really minute details changed things, and could have made the whole game different. I don't see how that is predictable. Some people probably don't even know that Ruby Weapon and Emerald Weapon were only in the US release!

I think FF7 is the best game ever, imo, and i don't see many flaws. What flaws are there? The graphics? The oddly-shaped characters? Graphics don't make a game. It has one of the best, and deepest story line that a game could possibly offer and great replay value.

Ryan - Now as I said before, I love FF7, I owe that game a lot, but the plot is full of so many holes it's like Swiss Cheese. I suggest you go to The FF7 Citadel Or something which is less comprehensive, but a little closer to my heart....

Akmlm - You're wrong, Ruby and Emerald also appeared on the PAL release and FFVII: International in Japan.

I dont think FF 7 is overated at all. It really was one of the best RPGs of all time and it deserves all the praise it gets if not more. Well thats my opinion at least.

Ah, something that's made me come back to post too...

FF7 is easily so overated. But I'm not going to sit here and whine about the graphics, becuase that part of the game didn't really bother me, the plot did.

The characters, and character development is absolutely horrible. Even "Aeris!" is annoying. This also goes for Sephiroth, ironically my old username was MasterSephiroth. I don't see how people can actually match Sephiroth up to other villians, such as Kefka, and even the greatest villian ever in my opinion, Luca Blight. Too bad nobody here's heard of him.

This is how I understood Sephiroth's evil scheme. He read books, thus making him evil, and then wants to destroy the planet.

The plot had so many plotholes and unexplained things, what was that part with "Cloud finding himself?" That was utterly boring, and stupid.

FF7 is really not a bad game, but it's not the best RPG ever, and nor is it even close to being the greatest game ever like many other 132,454,246,657 claim it to be.

The only thing I actually really enjoyed about FF7 was the dark urban setting, and the materia system, other tha that, it's medicore to the fullest.

And if you're going to argue that it was awesome at it's time, I would have rather played Tales of Destiny II, Suikoden, Suikoden II, Breath of Fire III, Breath of Fire IV, Xenogears, and several other RPG's over it.
