That all depends on how picky you are. To say the least the story is told in a very interesting way though.

Yes, this is a bump. Yes, I saw this movie yesterday. Yes, I'm putting in a spoiler tag.

Spoiler:
I was particularly impressed with the art direction, Dracoon's on to something when he asks what your favorite color is. The fact is the movie's art direction has a lot to do with the underlying emotions of every perspective that the story was told in.

When it is told in Nameless' perspective, there is a lot of yellow, a lot of red, and a lot of orange, all colors that represent heat and anger and craziness. Not only does that lead one to realize that his story is false, but it also is very indicative of the characters and the emotions felt by then when the story is told from his perspective.

When the story is told from the King's perspective, there are many blues, greens, teals. These are sad colors. The king's story is filled with much more sadness than Nameless's story, and it definitely shows in the colors. However, I took issue with the colors and their uses.

The colors made the entire film extremely predictable. When one saw Snow and Broken Sword dressed in red, one could tell that there was a story of jealousy at work. It was obvious. When they were dressed in blue, there was more obviousity, the sadness that they both felt showed that one of them would die and the other would be sad, it's very easy to see that.

However, what I thought really made the movie shine was the third perspective. The one where everyone was dressed in white. White represents purity, there is total truth to the story, the problems of the star-crossed lovers are apparent, but there is no sadness, for they in the end realize that they do love each other, even if it does cost them their lives. Even Nameless, who is portrayed as a liar and a swindler in the other perspectives, proves that he can be heroic as well.

Dammit, that's the thing about Quentin Tarantino films, there's no black or white, it's always a grey area, you've got to keep on thinking, I guess. Anyone here see Reservoir Dogs?

Yeah... A lot of people are under the impression that Hero is directed by Tarantino. An eensy bit of research will tell otherwise.

Wasn't sure of his involvement, but yeah, I figured he'd just financed it to show in the US. He did the same thing with another kung fu movie I saw...can't remember what it was.

Thinking about going to see Hero, though. Now let's see when I actually go do it...

Question: Is the movie about the ancient Chinese commander, Liu Bei? It sounds like his story, from what I heard on the previews...

I honestly don't know what hand Tarantino had in the movie, it just was lauded as "his next movie" during all the trailers I saw. I know he didn't direct it, but whatever hand he had in it, it's definitely an amazing film, I loved it. I just had a few issues with it being sorta predictable, that's all. In any case, it definitely sounds like he had a hand in it, the time switching style of shooting, and plus it's somehow very intense. The only thing that ISN'T like his films is the utter lack of blood, with the exception of a few very important parts.

Grey: If you had actually READ THE THREAD BEFORE REPLYING, you'd have known that Tarantino did absolutely nothing on the movie except finance it's release in the US.

Thank you very kindly for scorching me with the hot flames of your bold-faced wit. Also, I sincerely doubt you should be blasting me for ignoring your words, when you called Tarantino an asshole before seeing the movie, and said it was pretty good after seeing it. Your second statement refutes your first, which led me to believe that perhaps you were simply being angry about his only financing the movie and overlooked another role he had in the film's making. Also, my words are open to interpretation, in bringing it to America, he did indeed have a hand in the film's making. However, at the same time I realize that I'm wrong to say he had more to do with the film than the finance of its American translation. I did read the thread. I did not read your post. Forgive me.

Saw it yesterday. Enjoyed it.

They turned a simple storyline, and made it deep. Like Grey said, the different array of colours was a nice touch. The action was served nicely (the arrow scene is pretty funky), and the way the movie was shown appealed to me. When I had seen the preview, I thought it would just be your typical crazy action movie full of big fights with hordes of enemies, and lots of flying around. But it wasn't. Although there was some good flying done, and A scene of army fighting, the storyline was alot better than what I had expected. Although being somewhat simple.

Alltogether, I thought that this was pretty good. Get's at LEAST a 7/10. Maybe 8.
