Does anyone know of a SNES emulator that can slow the frames right down so each frame is viewable (like the "next frame" feature in VBA). I'd like to use it to make my own animated GIFs and cursors using the snapshots.

Yeah, hit F1, and do the snapshot advance a frame option. Though it seems like it advances 2 frams now and then. That is what you are looking for though. Hope it helps.

And by the way, Lenophis, you didnt mention the name of that editor:s

I think ZSNES is what you want. As you're playing a game, just hit F1 as Lenophis said.

Super cool guys. I didn't realize that ZSNES had that in it. I was using the slowdown key but this sounds a lot better.

By the way, there is a rare number of games which even has more frames than ZSNES recognizes:
An example is Rudra no Hihou, a flying enemy:

Usually flying enemies have wings. But although I dumped every single frame using F1 -> Save snapshot/Increase frame, the "flap" happens between two commands using the menu
But other than else, all other enemies have normal frames which can be dumped easily. Just wondering; too bad animated GIFs doesn't allow very low delay times to make the frames having the same speed like in the original games (at least in RnH - like many enemies are extremely in their animation; fliyingh birds "Ornith" and so on).

(Yes, the eye should open and close, but that would be twice or even trice the frames that bird already has; planning for a rankset in the future somewhere is bad - huge number of frames and sometimes very (!) big dimensions )

Cool. I guess that ZSNES still has a bit of work to do with its emulation.

You know it took me three times of reading that, and I didn't understand what the hell you were saying until I reread my post. Zsnes is NOT an editor, it's an emulator. And I apologize for forgetting to mention it.

The NTSC standard defines that the TV screen ("frame") is scanned 60 times per second. In one pass, the odd lines (1, 3, 5, ...) are scanned, and in the next pass the even lines. So you get 30 fps, but you can detect changes at 60 fps. The SNES is active between the passes, and can change its graphics. (Another example is Samus in Metroid 3, when you use the elevator.)

ZSNES' behaviour could maybe be fixed by relocating some code. You could create a thread in the Feature Requests forum of the ZSNES board.
