| Back in the day when I put a new motherboard in my computer, everything pretty much turned out fine. Actually, it was a motherboard and a new case. So I had to switch everything over. Everything worked good except for the A: I click on it, and I can hear the disc spinning but it gives me the message: There is no disc is drive a: I checked and it said it is working properly and isn't malfunctioning. O_o I've tried it with many discs, some new, some old but nothing. It shows up as an installed piece of hardware and working properly. Any ideas? |

| What is your A drive in this case? It sounds like an optical (IE CD/DVD) drive of some kind. the only thing I can think of, in this case, is that the drive itself is messed up. It happened to me a couple of times. |

No, it was a 3.5 disc drive. I fixed it though.  The problem was that the cord in the back was upside down. Easy fix.  Just something to keep in mind if this ever happens to anyone else. |

 Generally if they're plugged in backward like that, the access light will be on all the time. You must have some weird brand or something... (Even HDs do that.) |

| Actually, I had a floppy drive that had the keying backwards . So, yeah. For floppy drives, if it doesn't work one way, flip it over. However, I have yet to see an HD that doesn't work the way it is keyed. If you have a cable that doesn't have this "key" make sure pin 1 of the cable is next to the power--i believe the same goes for the floppy and optical drives as well. |
