Are there any ska fans here?

I'm not a really big one, but I've always loved it. I have a set of ska bands that I enjoy, but just haven't listened to a lot of it.

My favs of ska are as follows, in some type of order: Catch 22, Reel Big Fish, Rx Bandits, Big D and the Kids Table

I have listened to the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, but not a lot.

Hmm..I think I've heard a few Ska songs but I really don't know the names . So I couldn't tell you which ones I liked. I do listen to it, but not very often. I need to expand my music horizons just a little bit more.

Oh, and for those that don't know, because I take it people don't know what it is...

ska is like punk rock mixed in with instruments like trumpets, trombones, alto saxes, tenor saxes.

Heh yeah. I wasn't sure how to describe it since I rarely listen to it. It's a different combination which makes it unique. I didn't pay attention to what was mixed into it though

I haven't heard much of it. Any particular songs you could recommend, to see if I like the genre?

I like some Third Wave Ska. Though, you have Ska-fans who would claim Third Wave ain't "real" Ska. Sublime, No Doubt, The Aquabats, those bands are pretty cool. I'm afraid I'm not very into the movement, though, so I don't know any of the lesser known bands.

The only ska I've really listened to is Madness, and I do enjoy some of their songs.
Madness - One Step Beyond, Baggy Trousers, My Girl

I really like the old school stuff, like Madness and The Specials. ALthough Reel Big Fish is pretty decent, I was introduced to them by the game DOA:XBV (The songs on there are "The kids don't like it" and "I want your girlfriend to be my girlfriend"

I love Ska, but I absolutely can't stand stuff like Five Iron Frenzy or RBF anymore... I used to like them, and then I just listened to FIF too much, and I started to hate the lead singer of RBF's voice. I like Catch 22, The Aquabats, and Goldfinger a lot more.

For songs, I'd recommend Pizza Day by the Aquabats, that's an instant classic. Also good is My Skateboard. It's.... well, can't really say this about the Aquabats, but it's kinda bittersweet.

From Catch 22, you'll wanna check out As the Footsteps Die Out Forever, Supernothing, and Keasby Nights along with what Toxic suggested, they really are the current kings of Ska music.

Goldfinger, even if you don't like their ska much, you can find good stuff anyway, in songs like Spokesman or Here In Your Bedroom, or if you're into Ska, King For a Day or Seems Like Yesterday are good choices. There are more, Goldfinger's got a lot of stuff, but those are the best ones I can think of now.

I used to really like ska, and I still do, but just not as much. I like the stuff like Madness and Bad Manners, but mostly bands such as Reel Big Fish and The Aquabats. RBF were my favourite band for a while, and I saw them live a couple of times and it was damn cool. I'm gonna see them again at the end of this month actually.. Fun

Grey: Only 1/2 right.

FIF is pretty annoying now, but RBF is still good. If you want to get to the nitty gritty, Catch 22 doesn't sing, so much as they talk

Moving along, I saw RBF live too in june, and I can attest to the fact that they kick insane amounts of ass live.

Toxic, FIF is dead. They broke up. But they still suck IMO.

I could give RBF another chance, but I seriously doubt I'll get too far into their stuff. Shame, too. I got a lot of it here. And I've never heard Operation Ivy...

I'm not a big fan of ska, I like the classics, like All My Best Friends are Metalheads, but after that there's not much more...

But Madness are GODS!

The ska version of Take On Me is great as well

Ska is teh awesomeness!
I'm a big fan of Area 7, Less Than Jake, Five Iron Frenzy, and No Doubt... Well. The old No Doubt. Before they went pop.

But my faves are easily Planet Smashers and Reel Big Fish.

I saw Planet Smashers live last year! w00t!

Folks, we have a winner.

I really haven't had a chance to hear Planet Smashers, but I'll be sure to find some.

The Aquabats are the only third-wave ska band I like or care to listen to. Not that they're particularly "ska" these days - they're continuing on their years-old quest to become Devo instead.

Not that this is a bad thing.

From AMG :

"Ska marked the true beginning of Jamaican popular music, coming to prominence during the early and mid-'60s right around the time the island was granted its independence. Ska ensembles were generally a blend of electric instrumentation and horns most popular in jazz (saxophone, trumpet, trombone).

Although structurally simple, ska has a bevy of influences, synthesizing American R&B, jump blues, Jamaican mento, calypso and other Caribbean styles, big-band swing, Afro-Cuban jazz, pocomania and other local religious folk music, and European ballroom dances. Of those, the first three
