What is the best, free, GIF animation program out there and where can I download it? BTW, I need one that will work with a computer that has no internet. Thanks

Microsoft makes a GIF animator...I believe you can get it at download.com. I don't know if I'd call it the best, but it worked well enough for me.

sory for bumping this thread, but i've always used unfreeze for my gif animations... it's a very small file and you make the pictures on paint, save as GIFs, and just drag and drop the gif files onto the box in the app... I have no idea what i just said... here's the link: http://www.whitsoftdev.com/files/unfreez.zip |

GIMP is a very nice free Photoshop clone of sorts that can export animated GIF's.

Well I'll be damned, I never knew the GIMP was also for non Linux boxes. How long has this been going on? |

Originally posted by Comrade LeejnikovFor years dude. I had used GIMP ages before I even started using Linux. Maybe becuse up until recently you had to have a license for GIF files for using them in GIMP (or living in a country where the patent wasn't covered), but now the patent have ended and hadn't been renewed. The United States GIF patent has been expired for a long time now. And I believe (if I recall correctly ...) that the Japanese patent is the only one left still in effect. The GIMP first started to get ported to Windows in 1997.. I'm not sure when the Mac OS X port got started, but I know that it officially got started earlier this year. I had to do a bit of hunting on the Web for that tidbit of info. My source: http://web.archive.org/web/20030608143455/www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/why.html |
