Ha, when you think about it, all of the Mario characters are neglected, with the exception of Bowser they're all really shallow and static characters. I only give Bowser the unneglected vote because they really did something with his personality in SMRPG (though that would be Square's fault), and because it shows in SMS's ending that he's really not THAT bad a guy, he just feels like it's his job to clash with Mario all the time.

Luigi's got a personality, too, now that I think about it. Superstar Saga showed a lot more about Luigi than any other game, even if he didn't talk it showed that he has feelings and stuff and that he's not a hollow Mario Brother. I like Luigi more than I do Mario cause he actually seems human.

Most of the character personalities come from the Mario RPGs, actually. There need to be more of those, sometimes Nintendo just has to go deeper than what we see and play with, the characters never change outside the RPGs. Of course, we've seen that Mario himself has little personality aside from the strong sense of justice and a liking for italian food, no matter how many RPGs he appears in.

Then there's Peach. Peach has nothing. Zero, in my opinion. She's really the most hollow Mario character, just the appreciative damsel in distress. SMRPG showed she could really kick some ass, but there wasn't enough about her aside from a liking for sneaking around that I saw. Definitely needs more of an active role.

Daisy? Hell if I know. Something about Luigi or something, I don't care about her.

Toad... There's a billion of them, and THEY ALL ACT THE EXACT SAME WAY. If anything, Toad needs his own game just to show that THE Toad, the one single Toad that is the true Toad, can be a hero too. He needs a personality beyond the "Help Peach at risk of own life" schtick that Nintendo gave him.

Wart was a mockery of Mario Villainry. I hated Wart. He should never come back.

And that's about it, all I can think of.

Cool analysis. And you're right, a lot of who we know the Mario characters to be all seem to be linked somehow to SMRPG. I also found some new personalities in Superstar Saga.

Sneaking around? That was Paper Mario. You probably just forgot to clarify, but...

Why were people expecting Luigi to be playable in Super Mario 64, anyway?
If I remember, Nintendo was originally planning on putting him in. And besides, people fall for fake screenshots ALL the time.

Wart = the most neglected.

I would like to see games around Peach. There is a puzzle game with Toad I think.

No, it was SMRPG, too, if you'll remember she snuck out of the castle while her grandma covered for her so that she could go and kick butt with the Mario party.

But still, that reinforces the liking for sneaking around. Ha, they could do a lot with that. Imagine it: Metal Gear Solid: The Princess Peach Missions.

Luigi is the most neglected to me. He does appear in some games but always as a second bannanna or a minor character. Sure he has two of his own games but they always have him searching for mario and never have him in an Action-y role like mario. Luigi deserves a chance in the spotlight.

Um...I voted Daisy- she's neglected...

Ninty? What's that? 'Nintendo,' or something...? No, because those are only Mario characters...

I voted for Wart.
Looked like the best option amongst them. But still there are other characters that inspire more 'affection' to players that the big old bubble-puking frog.

Let's all go back to the good ol' days of SMB3 or SMW... who was expecting us at the end of every 'world' or 'map' as you wish to call it... SMB1 we had Bowser 'clones' all around.. but nintendo came up with 7 little 'children' of the great Koopa King (can say they are their sons because we haven't seen a Mrs. Bowser yet and besides you know how this 'cartoons' and game characters work.. they are always their nephews or nieces , hehe)

THE KOOPA KIDS!
Did all of these shell-shocked monsters actually died in the molten lava of SMW? (Except for Morton, Roy and Ludwig.. who seem to 'shrink to nothingness' in mid air)
They never made appearaces on Mario Party games (Bowser Jr. WTF!!!) and they could have done a better job than the evil mini-me version of Bowser . I sure wanted to see those little bastards rendered on 3D... hell i don't know why anyone thought of these guys when you have Ludwig Von Koopa on the top of the page!!!

Now these guys have at least 10 years of neglection (let's just not consider the Advanced versions and stuff... I mean, it's just Copy/Paste the animation frames anyway!)

And about the hallowness of these characters? well most of them seemed to have a slight personality, or at least that's how they described them everytime you teared down one of the little castles. We 'injected' a few sub-con characters to the mario universe...(shy guys... mario dreamed about them in SMB2 because he saw them when he was just a baby, SMW2:YI! OH MY GOD THE PLOT TWIST!!!) but we sacrificed a lot of 'regular' characters in the process too...

I could go on for hours... but let's hear it for the koopa kids from you guys! That's neglection...

Just to clarify this, the new SM64x4 game comin out for the Nintendo DS will have Mario, Luigi, Wario and Yoshi as fully Playable characters, so none of them are neglected. Luigi has had roles of his own in games from the SNES to GC.
Wario has had alsorts of games, but yoshi seems to be kind of neglected as he is only letting mario ride his back. Wart gets my vote

Don't forget Yoshi's Safari. Although, it's a bit less comtemporary than Mario & Luigi.

Anyway, most of these choices in these poll are hardly what I consider neglected at all, with the exception of Wart and I though he was lame anyway.

Mario is the damn star of the series and his entry in the poll is pretty much a joke. Bowser and Peach have pretty much appeared in almost every main Mario game since SMB1. Luigi may had not been in SM64 or Sunshine, but it's not much of a big deal when he was originally conceived as a palette-swapped Mario for the second player to contro and despite, he was worthy enough to have his own gamel. Daisy was a shallow clone of Peach to begin with. And there are way too many Toads for him to be considered a specific character.

None of the characters in this poll hold a candle (except Wart) to truly neglected characters like Stanley (although, technically he isn't a Mario character), Pauline and Spike (aka Blackey, from Wrecking Crew). Pauline and Blackey have yet to appeared in another game since their debuts aside from the respective sequels/remakes of their games (Donkey Kong '94 and Wrecking Crew '98). It's not fair that Pauline gets left out in Mario vs. Donkey Kong in favor for a bunch of toys (she doesn't even appear in any of the Sports and Party titles) and I would've preferred if they had included Spike in Mario Tennis instead of that lamer Waluigi.

Wart, because he's the only one of those who has never appeared in a Mario game. He was the main boss of a game called "Doki Doki Panic."
