According to NintendoFans and Spiegel Online and Wirtschaftswoche, would Microsoft offer a good price if Hiroshi Yamauchi (last Nintendo President, current holder of most Nintendo Stocls) decides to sell his Stocks of Nintendo. What do you think if Microsoft would buy Nintendo? Will the creativity go downhill, or will the 'joint-venture' of Gates and Iwata storm the Videogamemarket with a good Online Concept, a console with much horsepower and a lot of creative and high quality games? |

That could make extremly good games but at which price? If Microsoft is to own Nintendo, you can say goodbye to low price platforms like the gamecube. (edited by DarkSlaya on 08-04-04 03:00 PM) |

A conversation between me and Lilmario that just happened on #Acmlm 's. Lilmario: Kawaii: Read my post KawaiiImoto-e: Lilmario: And why? Elobrate. Lilmario: Nintendo has always been on its own, creating the most innovative machines and the best 1st party games. If Microsoft were to buy Nintendo, It would completely ruin it! I mean, Nintendo is Nintendo, Microsoft is Microsoft! They're fine seperate Lilmario: I swear Lilmario: This better not happen KawaiiImoto-e: Imagine the other, who is the current number 1 in the home console market? KawaiiImoto-e: Sony with the Playstation, correct? Lilmario: correct.. Lilmario: What about them? KawaiiImoto-e: I think, and many others too, that the console market is a little bit stuffed with three consoles (PS2, XB, GCN). Lilmario: I don't think XB should even exist Lilmario: it was fine with the Sony-Nintendo war Lilmario: And the sales were due to Vice city and its release date Lilmario: The ps2's release date :KawaiiImoto-e: Sony holds with the PS2 about the half of the market, Nintendo and Microsoft share the last 50% with about an euqal percentage (some times Nintendo leads, other times Micorosft). Lilmario: True Lilmario: But look at this years e3 KawaiiImoto-e: Lilmario, when only the releasedate matter, the Dreamcast would be first, no? Lilmario: ...Got me there KawaiiImoto-e: This years E3 was dominated by handhelds and DoomIII Lilmario: ...And the new zelda KawaiiImoto-e: and GT4 Lilmario: Nintendo have a bright future ahead alone KawaiiImoto-e: and many other games, but most the new Handhelds. Lilmario: Doesn't GBA lead in sales? KawaiiImoto-e: now we look at the bad side if Microsoft buys Nintendo: KawaiiImoto-e: Is GBA a homeconsole? Lilmario: No, but it has no other competition KawaiiImoto-e: Microsoft would dictate Nintendo to develop new games for the X-Box. With XB Live support. KawaiiImoto-e: The SNES was without competition when the PS was released. Lilmario: All in All, I just don't wan't Nintendo's quality going to some leeching, money hungry company like Microsoft Lilmario: It deserves better than that Lilmario: IMO* KawaiiImoto-e: Other downside: Nintendo would loose the Brandname on the Console, may have some right when the next X-Box is developed. KawaiiImoto-e: Also its intependence, as we both stated allready. Lilmario: Yeah Lilmario: Bah, ' The Nintendo difference ' wouldn't mean anything if it joined with Microsoft KawaiiImoto-e: But on the upside: Microsoft has a lot of money, and I think Gates is not stupid and would invest in Nintendo to develop new good and creative games, more Handhelds and even would develop the next system together with the seasoned R&D1 Team and over 20 years of Hard- and Software development in the Videogame area. I think we both got valid points, it could be good for the Industrie, but it could be very bad too. What do you think? |

Just pointing out that the SNES had plenty of competition in the Genesis. Yeah. Anyway, would it be the entire (Presumably majority) share that would be sold off here? I'd say it'll never happen, but I said that about Microsoft buying Rare too, and look how that turned out. |

I heard that Microsoft wanted to buy Nintendo before, and that Nintendo rejected that offer. Doubt that it happens, but if it happens. Then it's just another company Microsoft bought up. And it have gone better now, the Gamecube sells have gone up with 70% I heard recently. |

If it DID happen.... And it probably wont... Just think of what it will be like! Mario on Xbox? Yeah, Nintendo would still have right to their characters, but Metroid and Mario and all the other famous mario games? One hell of a Super Smash Bros! |

Yeah. You people really need to understand if Nintendo didn't have retarded marketing practises, they would buy Sony. Sony just doesn't have the money to purchase Nintendo. You see, money makes greed, one day your brains will begin to comprehend the fact that Nintendo doesn't give a shit about you. Neither does Sony. Guess what, they haven't since they started making money. |

Nintendo is not stupid, therefore, this will not happen. Microsoft just wants to get competition out of the way. And Nintendo is doing fine on its own. |

Originally posted by VAL4PREZ Yeah, I can't stand that shit. "Nintendo is not stupid..." They can be. Remember when they chose to stay with cartridge format instead of the next wave like Sony did? They lost Squaresoft because of it. That, and that's why PSX dominated that war. Better format makes for bigger and better games. Oh, and seeings how Nintendo pissed off Sony in the first place by backing off the project, the antithesis of Nintendo consoles was born, the Playstation. I'd say that was pretty stupid. I doubt this is going to happen. And so what if it does? It's still going to be Nintendo. People freaked the fuck out when Microsoft bought Rare but I bet most of you X-Box/Microsoft anti fanboys are just DROOLING over what Perfect Dark 2 is going to be like. KawaiiImoto-e: Is GBA a homeconsole? Lilmario: No, but it has no other competition You know why? Because the whole Gameboy series has dominated every single handheld that it's faced. All of them. And it still does today. With the PSP coming out though, things could get interesting. Of course, the PSP is going to cost a pretty fucking penny... Anyway, those who say Microsoft has no business in the gaming industry should start using your heads. Do NOT get gaming and operating systems mixed up. Think what you will about Windows, but Microsoft has made some damn good PC games in their time. Not only that, but the X-Box is no longer the joke it was when it was first released. It currently has what I think is the best next-gen RPG (Star Wars: KOTOR) and the best action game of all time (Ninja Gaiden). And check out X-Box's future line-up. Good god. That, and take a look at Microsofts X-Box Live gaming plan/features compared to Sony's. It's simply superior. And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Nintendo still only have one online capable game? That being PSO? (Which doesn't have voice chat compared to the X-Box version which does.) Oh, and this doesn't include that one "Pipe" thing that lets you play other games online. I forgot what it was called. Again, don't mix up OS development with the console department. That's two completely different microcosms of Microsoft. "I think they would buy Nintendo just to get Nintendo out of the way. I think they |

The internet would CRASH the moment a sale like this happened. You'd have all the fanboys hitting the message boards and a flood of DoS attacks to microsoft.com and nintendo.com. Could it happen? Sure. Anything COULD happen. But Nintendo's not in a position where they absolutely have to sell now and they're still solvent... so no. |

I wouldn't count on it. These rumours have been circulating for years, and Nintendo already refused. Still though, if it happens, I'm burning down M$ HQ. Think about it; Nintendo is their #1 competition in the game market. Does M$ buy their competition, then continue to make great products under the same name? No way. M$ buys them out and you never hear from them again. Consider: M$ didn't invent DOS, they bought it. Think the poor sucker who sold it is seeing any of the profit? HA! Ever wonder why IE is free? Because they thought it'd be good to include a web browser to boost sales, right? WRONG. Because someone out there is getting a good chunk of the profits. What's 50% of zero? M$ buying Nintendo == the end of Nintendo, or at least of their quality. |
