You've got to be kidding me.

"Does M$ buy their competition, then continue to make great products under the same name? No way. "

OF COURSE THEY DO/WOULD! Why the hell wouldn't they? Unless they hated money which obviously they don't.

You already prooved my point with this:

"M$ buys them out and you never hear from them again. Consider: M$ didn't invent DOS, they bought it."

Gates and Allen didn't buy DOS just to get rid of it, they knew that they had something big on their hands and they could capitalize on it in a huge way, which they obviously did.

"M$ buying Nintendo == the end of Nintendo, or at least of their quality."

Absolutely not. Microsoft has nothing to fear from Nintendo these days. Nintendo isn't the powerhouse it used to be. Maybe if this was the late 80's to mid 90's yeah, but not these days. Nintendo hasn't been making earth shattering console sales with the Gamecube in case you haven't noticed. Same goes with the N64 and it's time.

Microsoft does realize, however, that Nintendo still has that certain knack that makes them legendary. They can still put out quality titles, titles that will always be huge. (Mario, Metroid, Zelda, etc...)
And along with ownerships rights for Nintendo comes ownership rights for Pokemon. A huge asset to have in the gaming world.

Having Nintendo under your belt would be a huge commodity. Microsoft could really up the ante in the console wars against Sony with Nintendo.

Just buying them to snuff them out would be an insanely stupid business move. Microsoft isn't that dumb, they know there's a big profit to be made here and they want it.

EDIT: Bungie and Rare aren't as busy as a company like Nintendo. Rare is still working on shit, it's just that they need time to get situated. Perfect Dark 2 does seem like it's getting further and further away. No new info in so long. But give it time.

They're not bleeding money on it either. Nintendo might be #3 in America but it's a decent #3. Nobody can beat Sony at the moment though.

And the same could be said for Microsoft in Japan - the Xbox is pretty much dead there. I wouldn't be surprised if the PS1 still outsells it some weeks. (Not a MS bash, but that's actually happened. Not good at all...)

And besides, I still want to see another Nintendo system. End of story.

If Microsoft buys Nintendo, the best would be when Microsoft lets Nintendo develop the next Console, but with integratet Internet Connectivity and Harddisk.

And of Course, Microsoft would let the Nintendo-Brand die. Nintendo stands for high quality games, even when many think Nintendo has only kiddy games, no one can ignore the sales of some games, incl. Pok

Here Gamecube seems to be 2#, maybe it's becuse of the Nintendo culture over here. (This country have the highest nes/population rate..)

I see more Gamecube than X-box things in stores. Thought Playstation also dominates here.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo is #2 in Europe, actually... although it's hard to get sales figures considering Nintendo would likely only count EU countries (and Britain) in their analysis.

I believe Nintendo is #3 in Australia, but don't quote me on that.

He already saw his profit - when he sold it.
That's it - he doesn't get any more profit after that, because it's no longer his.

Yes, and additionally the people running Nintendo know how much they're worth and even if they did let it go it'd be for some obscene sum. Who cares if they don't get any money after that? They'd be hilariously, ungodly rich beyond their wildest dreams So basically I'm saying HyperHacker's wrong, before you ask.

The total assests of Nintendo are relatively low for a multi-national corporation of their size. A total liquidation of their production facilities, patents, stock, etc. would probably bring in only 20 billion dollars of sales.

Now, if the games divisions of Sony or MS did that, you could see something closer to 60-80 billion.

Oh, and Microsoft is starting to pick up in Japan because consumers realized "Holy shit, they're the first company to literally bend over backwards to please us with everything that we could ever want...". It's not a big pick up, but their profit margin is closing in on 0.

If Microsoft buys Nintendo, then it really might mean the end of Nintendo consoles, though. I like my Gamecube. Certainly, Nintendo won't lose that sparkle that makes it Nintendo, but at the same time I don't think being bought out is gonna cause the innovative ideas to just start shooting out of their heads... If anything, wouldn't being bought out be a demoralizing move? There tend to be less creative thoughts when you're constrained by your superiors. Plus, they'd have to deal with Microsoft's standards, at any time MS could say they don't want Nintendo to put in a certain feature in a game, or that they need to change the formula to suit the MS image... Would that really be good for Nintendo? I'm sincerely hoping the DS saves Nintendo's butt. Maybe they should stay where they truly excel, in the handheld arena...

Don't forget Nintendo still has a new console up their sleeves at E3... Then again, so does everyone else.

And I think that the *little bit* of success the GBA's had doesn't exactly hurt.

The big problem about Nintendo, is the fact that they are only active on the Gaming Market... While Sony, they have the electronics, gaming, software... Microsoft, they have the software, gaming at there sleeves...

Things we don't see/we will probably never see:

- A TV with name Nintendo at the Bottom ..
- A DVD Player by the codename NiNTENDO17002-005
- A New OS by the name Nintendo Miyamoto XP
- Nintendo Internet Explorer 6.01

I think that MiCRo$$$oFT buying NiNTENDo, might be a good idea; as long as all the new software comes in with the name Bill Gates in the end credits

------------------------------
MANY THANKS TO:
------------------------------
Bill Gate$$$$$
Orochimaru
Sasuke
Jiraiya
Uchiha Itachi
Bill Gate$$$$$
Shizune
Naruto
Ino
Sakura
Bill Gate$$$$$
Nintendo of America Inc.
Microsoft Inc.

etc... you get the idea... $$$$$ buys all
