...?

How is that flawed? Timmy D is one of the best players in the world right now, and is basically unstoppable.

Exactly so give him the ball and point him to the net and say shoot.

...and watch him miss.

I think this so-called 'Dream Team' is simply clinging for hope to get one medal.

So many members of that team, and most of them if not all, are clueless to the expression 'perimeter shooting'

Maybe not an expression but I guess they did the best they could with what they had. Many point guards and shooters backed out from the Olympics this year, so I guess that is the way the cookie crumbles.

and by back on track, you mean barely treading water.

I hate everyone that didn't show up.

Ah, I knew that Lithuania would be a gold medal favorite at the games...

To be fair, you guys played your best match of the tournament so far tonight. On the flip side, it was against a really good team and something had to give.

Well, we've beaten Spain, which I believe gets us into the medal round. Somehow this doesn't make me happy.

They defeated the undefeated Spain while Puerto Rico lost to Italy.

wtfomfg

We lost to Italy in what had to be the worst showing of basketball yet. (Not really)

But damn, rebounds. Why o why couldn't my team jump high enough to get a rebound?

Oh, if the US faces Lithuania again, they will lose..again.

HAHAHHAHA, watching that Argentinian school our defense with the behind-the-back pass was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. See what your get-on-Sports-Center-at-all-costs style has bred, Captain Ballhog? That goes for the rest of you too, Gimme Gimme Crew.

And yes, I said "our defense". As our local paper reported a week or so ago, "This team has managed the impossible: to turn a large number of people from its own naiton against it."

anyways, U.S. has lost in the semifinals to Argentina. So, it seems they are not going to get a gold-medal this olympics...

so, it is on to the bronze-medal game...

Lithuania DOWN! There goes your defacto gold medal favorites, losing to Italy.

Prediction: Argentina, Italy, Lithuania. I doubt the States show up for the bronze game.

I'm telling you, we would have taken gold again this year if it weren't for the god damn ball hogs. Jesus H. Christ, they had MANY oppurtunites to score but it looked like it was each man for himself.

Add that to the fact that other basketball teams this year are even better than they were before...

What a shitty year for our basketball team. I'm ashamed of a lot of their cowardice too. Ugh.

It was funny hearing the Australian commentators trying to disguise the giddy sense of glee in their voices as the US lost to Argentina.

They were sort of trying to be objective journalists... but with their being involved with basketball, and having suffered many losses at the hands of the US Basketball team, they just sounded so happy that America lost. Particularly Andrew Gaze, former Australian captain, shouting "WELL, THE DREAM IS OVER".

Women's basketball gold medal game tonight - Australia vs America. We'll see how that goes, though the US must be the favourites to win it.

I am very pleased with the comments made by Italy concerning the loss of the gold medal. VERY sportsmanlike and a very good attitude to have.

I've seen a lot of comments that are along the lines of "they didn't deserve to win today" and "we were better than them" come from the losing side (from a variety of sports) so it was good to see that someone accepted a loss gracefully.

Well, in closing I'd like to say while it's disappointing that we didn't win the gold this year, I'm not THAT disappointed by it. I can honestly say we didn't deserve it this year. For fucks sake, they had better get their act in gear next time around.

It was, however, great to see something new and interesting for a change. Olympic basketball is exciting again. And some countries have obviously came leaps and bounds. Good stuff.

Amen to that Leg. There is nothing I cannot stand more than when some whiny bitch on another team says stuff like "the better team did not win."

Main example for me, Kordell Stewart and the Steelers after the Pats spanked them in the AFC championship, and went on to win the superbowl.

Now you have Italy, Argentina, Team USA, Lithuania and Serbia as strong nations, and then you have the up-and-comers like China, Spain, etc.

Things could be VERY interesting come 2008.
