ok. i just got weatherbug off my system. aol instant messenger's latest version installs automatically a program called weatherbug that supposedly gives you weather updates and warnings. the only problem is that it was totally screwing up my computer. i could not work anything online, and when i could im people, my messages would come out backwards as i was typing them and im windows would close off so i could not see the messages, and i could not return them to their previous state. but i finally got it off my system. if you have weather bug, get it the hell off your computer!

Welcome to the world of GAIN shit. I'd get Ad-Aware on your comp too...and yea...you're right...it was part of a bundle package with AIM as I read here. WeatherBug's been an ad thing for quite some time, this particular one from IBS.

this is why if you still use AOL's IM software, you stick with v5.2 or below...

Someone should do a anti-AOL campaign now.

No really, a ISP that give their customers spyware. If that happened in Sweden it would be all over the news. ISP's dosen't hate their customers that much.

I use Trillian, but just becuse I don't like how AIM behaves and looks like...

See also the WildTangent plugin they use for AIM games, which causes Ad-Aware to completely freak out to the tune of 200-something files. Woot.

Not necessarily...just uninstall AIM and use another medium that runs it like Trillian or DeadAIM.

The hell with an anti-AOL campaign, I say we do one better. Get together and make a worm that goes into your system, destroys all spyware, and stays put, killing any new spyware that comes along.

The problem with messengers I've tried is...
-AIM has spyware and ads
-Trillian is one of the buggiest things I've ever seen
-Everything else is missing critical features (direct connection, file transfer, etc)
It's sad.

You know, that sotr of viruses have appeared, they have been along for long time. The first one deleted another virus, but couldn't due to a bug. That was back in 1990-1992.

And with Worms... dosen't work so well. It still clogs up bandwidth.

Yeah... run spyware and virus checks.

I'd recommend Gaim. It supports everything for the AOL protocol perfectly except for Direct IM (you can connect, but it's very buggy, and you may get disconnected).

Hmmm..I've had weatherbug on my computer for about a year and then some, and I haven't had any problems with it. But I don't think I got it from AOHell or AIM (I use Trillian now, instead of AIM). Might as well uninstall AIM, run a adware check and a virus check and then install it again.
