My computer have got a DVD player and I've got a few DVDs, so I'm sometimes watching movies on the computer instead of my DVD player that you plug into the TV. However, what annoys me is the fact that every DVD player I've got on my computer uses the same method to draw the movies on the screen, which makes it impossible to take screenshots from them with the normal Print Screen method. The programs I have only shows a certain color (some kind of dark purple), and then, some higher program (probably in Windows itself) replaces that color with the movie. The problem is that it replaces the colors AFTER the Print Screen program checks for keypresses and copies the screen to the clipboard. Using Print Screen and pasting it into paint will only give you the purple color. (If the movie is still running, it will show it in paint.) Now to my question: Is there a free (and hopefully spyware free) DVD program that aren't using this method to draw on screen or with a built in ability to take screenshots? (For your information, I'm using Windows XP. The ones I've tried are Windows Media Player 9, WinDVD and PCfriendly DVD) |

Try making sure the program that plays your DVD isn't the selected program, open paint too and then print screen, that should work.

For some reason, DVD player programs insist on not letting people take screenshots. If I had one, that'd piss me off and I'd probably have made my own player by now.

Using half acceleration in WMP lets me take screenies of normal video.. people say it's not possible to do it like that but it works for me. Other than that, you could try Fraps for taking screens, it might be able to do it.

Originally posted by Coby That wouldn't work. I could even save the pic, close it and the movie and reload anything. Still wouldn't work. (By the way, this does also apply to Real Player (at least the older ones. Haven't used it in a while)) Originally posted by Jill Ok. I'll try that WMP thingey. Also, I guess that "Fraps" is a media player? (edited by Smallhacker on 07-29-04 06:40 PM) |

Weird, Print Screen worked fine for me, albeit with a bit of a delay... It's a slightly outdated version of the software, though, which may have something to do with it. Specifically, I believe it's InterVideo WinDVD 2000. (edited by Emptyeye on 07-29-04 07:03 PM) |

Found, Downloaded, Installed, Started and used Fraps. Wow, it works perfectly, exept for the fact that it stretches the pictures a bit. But it's still great! Thanks a lot for the tip, Jill! (For everybody's information, it can be found at http://www.fraps.com/) |

I didn't know DVD players to take screenshots . I knew nothing about that. You learn new things every day. I guess I didn't know because I don't own one. The only one I have that's close to one is my PS2 but that barely works.

Well in *nix or perhaps Windows mplayer allows to pass this option "mplayer -vo x11 foo.ext" and it allows me to take screenshots of any video I care to show in a screenie. With the new version of Xorg out it actually runs faster than the xv module.. neat. |

Originally posted by HyperHacker Bull. On the original hard drive on this Shitpaq I had the DVD program that came with it and it allowed you to take a screenshot at anytime with a button that was in the viewbar. I don't exactly recall the name of it though because I never had it restored (don't use the DVD player on here unless it's to rip it to AVI). |
