I'm trying to open a folder holding compressed PAK files or something I took off of my Colony Wars game for PSX

When I attempt to open the folder I get a message telling me the compressed folder is corrupt or invalid. When I try to extract the compressed files, I get a message telling me the folder is empty.

Again, I'm dealing with compressed PAK files here from Colony Wars for PSX. Can anyone help please?

If you took it directly off the PSX disc...I doubt very seriously you're going to have any normal tool be able to open it.

You could try finding PSMplay or some other PSX tool to see if you can open it. Check Zophar's Domain for that. I don't believe I've heard of opening PAK files.

Furthermore, what's compressed that we're dealing with here? Images, music, data?

I realy have no idea what kinds of files are in the folder. Its call DATABASE and I'm noping it has pictures of ships and craft used in the game.

Ok, the whole folder thing is the PAK file. On the Colony Wars disk, the file I'm trying to access is DATABASE.PAK. When I copy that file to my computer, it shows up as a folder holding compressed files.

I can make a .exe file appear to be a .zip file just by changing the extention. This means that just because the file ends in .pak, this doesn't mean it is what you see it as. If you want to extract stuff out of a PSX games, you need utilities to do that. However, I do not believe anyone has written such a utility for the game. But you can try searching for one.

Maybe not the game in general...but they might have a general utility for things like that on Zophar...I don't personally know because I don't own the game...it's something he's going to have to try out for himself.

And if doesn't work...can't say you didn't try.

I've tried something called Dragon unPACKer. Something called PAK explorer. And I've tried a couple other programs. No success.

Thanks for the help gang.

I'll restate the Zophar's Domain idea with this link.

I'd check out PSMPlay or PSXMC...scan your PSX CD for possible things you can look at it in the whole thing and see if it doesn't come up with what you're looking for.
