I don't know if anyone came up with this before, but I suddenly decided to make some smilies for an old crazy idea of mine.

This idea is to have smilies of the ^_~ / / / <_> style be generated from halves of their faces. The reasoning behind this, if one could call it reasoning, is that one could make strange smilies for certain situations or just for the sake of frankensmilyness.

And here are some example smilies for the idea.

except for the fact you'd need some kind of delimiter

Ah, I was thinking it would only work if you had two recognized symbols around an underscore. I can't imagine it causing more problems than current smiles do sometimes that way. However, [smile][/smile] probably would work even better (perhaps even for other smiles, for that matter).

yeah, I agree. could be some interesting possibilities there. what's more, having a smiley only recognized inside a special tag would prevent having smileys show up in the middle of code or the like, even if you want to use smileys elsewhere in a post.

I'm for it.

Not a bad idea at all. Allthough I think for that we'd need a different size for smileys; 15x15 is currently the default and most useful, but for using 'halves' like that, we'd need to use something uneven to get proper halves.

Like I said, not a bad idea at all, the only disadvantage I see in it is having all smileys to be the same color, that's what I hate about most other board's smileys so much.

Hmm..... I like the idea. You're pretty inventive, Squash Monster I certainly would never have thought of such a thing anyways

I have no idea how you'd actually go about doing it though, but I'd certainly be interested in seeing it if you do get it working

Just made a small concept. It does have some dissadvantages though. Like I said, we need to use same color on all of them, and in case you haven't noticed, some smileys don't really go well with eachother, for one, the AB one doesn't go along well with others.

I thought of those two things, actually. The smilies I made are all based on the 15x ones, and they all have the middle pixel collumn included... trimming that collumn from one half would be easy enough. I couldn't think of a better solution than multiple images for the color thing, though ([sm=red]-_~[/sm]).

And yay, people like my crazy idea! .

But you do get the occasional hit-in-the-face-with-a-shovel smilies ...
