I'm re-ripping my CDs. So, I used to use LAME with Hi Quality = 2, VBR-NEW, VBR Quality = 9, 64 Kbits to 320 Kbits, J-Stereo. I want to know what's the best quality vs file size ? Also, which configuration you people are using.

There is no way of measuring quality. It really does depend on what you can get away with. I notice even the slightest dip in quality in sound. 196kbits is enough to pass for me, and still retains a good compression. 6MB for a 5 minute song, 42 hours worth of music in 3.2 GB

I find 128Kbps to work better for me sizewise (1:34 takes up ~1.43MB -- 3:40 takes up ~3.35MB) since there is a very close 1 minute/MB ratio) As for quality, 128Kbps is good enough some people require more and others less. It seems the average person prefers 192Kbps. |
