I've seen planty of BSoDs on XP, but most of them were the result of hardware problems.

Legion: If I was trying to go for uptime, I wouldn't use WinBlinds, but I shut my PC off when I'm not using it, so it's not an issue.

My PC was a performance PC almost three years ago, probably before anyone cared about noise pollution from PCs, so it's guzzling air away happily
As it's right next to my bed, it will keep me up all night. Until they can GUARANTEE a watercooler that will not leak, then perhaps I'd think about uptime

The Mac users are gonna tar and feather you.

I use Windows XP Pro. I plan to try Linux one day but I'm used to Windows and the OS has been remarkably stable.

Windows XP for me, ive done a little bit with Redhat but it performed crapily on my machine and being a newbie when it comes to linux I had no idea how to tweak very many settings.
XP is fine for majority of people its simple to use, and works well if you take care of it.

I use my computer for scripting purposes and etc, but at the moment its morely to learn about scripting. I would have to say i have much more interest in hardware and networking though.

None of the poll options apply to me. I use Debian.

I first started using Linux in 1999, when it was first getting attention from the press. First, I tried using a single floppy distribution to learn the basic commands. After that, I installed DragonLinux, a Linux distribution that installs on a FAT partition and runs from DOS. I used it mostly to browse the Web. In early 2000 we got a new hard disk for the 486 that we had at the time, because the one that we had was full and spilling over to a bunch of Zip disks from a Win 3.1 to Win98 upgrade. After the hard disk upgrade, I started looking for a major distribution to install. I don't remember exactly why I chose Debian.

Unlike Rydain, I use stable. All the software is at least two years old, which can be a problem sometimes. For example, there are annoying unfixed bugs in Mozilla and Galeon(a web browser that uses the Mozilla layout engine). I'm even developing software with a pre-1.0 IDE.

Upgrading to sarge is going to be a pain, not because of the package management, but because of the the backing up and days of downloading(that will need to be interrupted during the day so phone calls can be taken) that will be required.

Yeah, it wouldn't apply in those situations there. Recently, my electric bill has literally tripled thanks to the annual Summertime "Whoring of the cash" by the power company. So I've been cutting back by shutting off my comp when I'm not using it.

Whenever I reboot, I start off by killing all the processes I don't need but this way, I don't have too. Especially if I'm just getting on for a few minutes. Unless of course I'm about to play a game so I go ahead and conserve all the memory I can.

I use Windows 2000 the most. I have XP, 2000, 98, 98se, 95, 3.1, 3.11, 3.0, Linux Mandrake 10.0 and Knoppix. There's a few systems laying around here somewhere that still have DOS 6.22 on them...unless I threw them out.

Mac OS X

Guess what?
No viruses, adaware/spyware, crashes, or other windows-only problems, never have to re-instal it etc.
When I turn it on, I can ACTUALLY do what I want, fun huh?

Oh, how I envy Windows-based PC-users ... NOT !

I would hate to burst your bubble, but I have to tell you the truth. None of those are Windows-only problems. There was a trojan in the form of an MP3 for Mac OS X. And I've seen adware/spyware on Macs. I've seen the classic Macs crash, but not the OS X one.

LOL, you've seen the Classic Mac crash?
Isn't that normal, that older computers still crash, geez.

Adware/Spyware on a Mac?
Hah!

And of course there might be a few virusses for Mac, but compared to Windows, none.

(Sorry, you didn't burst my bubble, as you put it so nicely )

No one crafts viruses or spyware for Macs because they don't give a damn about you. They only target real OS'.

Well, they've started work on a new MNSWPR engine, but it crashed when they tried to run it with Photoshop.

No operating system is perfect. And the major ones will always have trojans, viruses, etc. Let's put it that way.

LOL, another example of how ignorant (read: retarted) PC-users are, all the good games are also on Mac.

Nice try, but grow up .
