Well I wanted to do a bigass PSX mod, and I figured a PSOne would be better suited because it's smaller. (It's a case mod. ) Now, as part of the mod, I need to replace the disc mechanism with a CD-ROM drive. Is this even possible? (I imagine it is, though I might have to hack apart the drive. ) The other thing is that all I really use my PSX for is NES emulation, so I need to be able to boot burned discs. With the one I have now, it's no big deal, I can use the swap trick. (I added a lid switch. ) With a PSOne, though, that might not be possible, and with a CD-ROM it most certainly won't be. So, what I need to know is is there a modchip available for PSOne?

Hmmm... If I remember right, there was a mod chip that worked in the same fashion as a memory card did. That is, you stick it in the memory card slot and it would work as a mod chip. And a memory card too I think. My memory is kind of fuzzy but I think Colleen was talking about it a lonnng time ago. |

I have a modchip that acts like a memory card but it's actually plugged on the expansion port at the back, like a gameshark/action replay... It also had the little spring thing to make the playstation believe there's a disc in it so that you can do the swap trick... I don't think the PSOne has the expansion port at the back though...

Booya! They have the cd switch one, but like you said.... They have an external one but it looks like it plugs into the same port as the old school Playstations and I'm 99.9% sure the PSone doesn't have one of those. Not sure how those work. But they also have the actual chips for the PSone too so there ya go. As for replacing the disc mech with a CD-ROM, well, I have no idea how or if that would work. I assume you COULD get it to work. EDIT: Ok, I misread. I clicked onPSone and it brought me those four items. But this is the only modchip they actually have for the PSone. Right here. (edited by Legion on 07-23-04 02:20 AM) |
