Washington doesn't rain all the time like some people think. (MOST places in) America: We arn't all paranoid We arn't as stupid as we are made out to be Alot of us don't agree with the majority of things America does or have done We arn't all close minded We arn't all Chirstians We have alot less crime than people believe (Crime rate is still way too high though) We do have some good music Yup, those are the ones I tend to see the most.... |

Originally posted by Apple I guess I can comment on Washington. Yeah, it doesn't rain ALL the time but it does get a good amount of rain. That's why I love it there. That, and the cold winters/mornings. Great stuff. And for some reason, people seem to think that Washington is filled with granola eating hippies. That one always made me laugh. Oh, and as for apples? Yeah, we have apples, but it's not like we're OVER RUN with them. I love Washington. Bestest state ever. Oh, and if you heard anything bad about Virginia, it's true. >( EDIT: Also, I can't believe some of this stuff here I never knew about. Especially when it comes to who invented what, and what originated from where. I hope that if I ever meet Jizuko or SomerZ some day, they don't invade me. (edited by Legion on 07-21-04 01:15 PM) |

Basically, when your plane lands in Oslo (or Stockholm), everyone's all nice, until you've settled in. Then we put our helmets on, and we take turns raping and pillaging them. It's really a great scheme. | |||

Originally posted by Suri Bear I wouldn't go as far as to say there is no truth so stereotypes of the Californian accent. There's definately a different vocabulary here - "dude" as a complete sentence, for example. Hell, you just used the phrase "hella broke." It's charming, I assure you. California is awesome. Um, I am Australian. I have lived in America for two years and am back in the USA currently, visiting friends. I have a list of silly misconceptions as long as your arm, misconceptions about Australia, as well as misconceptions about America. One thing that strikes me is how little people really know about Australia. Seems like quite a few people don't realise we are a modern, civilised urban country - it's like they think we're all kind of backwards, drunk, dysfunctional and rural... bronzed meat-heads drinking beer and fighting a lot. Oh well. Australians seem to msotly have their ideas of Americaland based on a bizzare hybrid of Jerry Springer, the cowby stereotype, and 'gangsta rap'. Vast hickich wastelands punctuated by a few anarchic crime-ridden dystopian megalopolises. It's weird. (edited by Arwon on 07-21-04 05:57 PM) |

In Canada... -The seasons go Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring. NOT Winter, Winter, Winter, Winter. Other than perhaps the occasional nutjob, nobody uses igloos as permenant residence. -We use the same clock as the rest of the world. -It's possible for a sentence to not end with 'eh'. -We have all of the technology the USA has. We're not still using steam-powered cars and candles. -The telephone is not a crazy new invention. Thank you and goodnight, eh? |

In England, it doesn't rain that much... When only complain about it that much. And the fact that you can't plan anything outdoors for the unpredictable weather. Apart from the week before Wimbledon, in which case you're garunteed a heat-wave for a week until the rain moves in for the tennis. |

Let's say that all the misconceptions about America, are simply Misonceptions...we're not stupid, we're well educated, not everyone is poor, not everywhere is filled with crime, we don't rape foreigners (except for the perverted), and so on... Now time for Texas: -We're not all rednecks. -We're not all cowboys. I hate that culture. -It's not all unicivilized farmland. The Metroplex is virtually a huge, 20 county city....with some country space. -We get surprisingly cool winters. -Not all of us has that drawl, or what is known as "good ole boy speech". Actually, if you want a pretty good visiion of what Texas really is, watch King of the Hill. |

We're all not rich and can buy whatever we want. We're all not lazy..I try not to be. California : -All not rich -We all don't live by the ocean -own a surfboard or call eachother "d00d" -All don't own a couple of houses -All don't own a bunch of cars There's more..I need to think about it |

Not everyone holds a surf board in their arms or says dude where I'm from. I'm not even by the beach. Saying dude will probably get your ass kicked I just say it on the internet to be funny... and I'm safe, so what the frigg! XDD You're right. California is uhh... "awesome"? France. There's not that many misconceptions, mainly ignorance and unjustified hate :/ Something that bugs me is the whole "surrendering" thing... I think it emerged from World War 2, when part of the government "surrendered" to germany -- read: collaborated. Everyone who collaborated and wasn't killed by the resistance was judged as a war criminal when the war ended. I have a big frame in my basement, there's 3 things in it: a black and white picture of a man in an army uniform, a jewish star cut out of a concentration camp uniform, and the "Legion d'honneur" (Medal of Honor). My great grandfather received the last two because he stood up for the country until the end, he was part of the resistance, got caught and put into a concentration camp, and was saved by the british army. If it weren't for people like my great grandfather, I'd be german (or more realistically, american/british) today. He didn't exactly fight his butt off in 2 world wars for me to be called a surrenderer... How many times have I seen some dumb comedian on TV talking about France? What's the only punchline you see? "I surrender" "We lose" "Hands above our heads" "blah" -- it's the kind of stuff that makes me want to throw the remote at the TV. On the internet, I got asked lots of weird stuff, people told me french people didn't take showers, girls didn't shave their legs or armpits, that 80% of france was farms, that we didn't have water/bathrooms in homes, no electricity, no computers (WOW, YOU CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET FROM FRANCE!) -- Anyways, some people think France is some underdeveloped shithole in the middle of nowhere, but those are probably the same people who don't know what the capital of their own country is, or they go by the name "||bass" (that's an exclusive or, mind you) One very very common misconception is that we're arrogant... Well... We have an army the size of napoleon's penis, which is nothing to be arrogant about, and hum, the people? We're human, we're just as arrogant as the next human... Last thing... Native english speakers suck at imitating the french accent. Merovingian in the Matrix series is obviously a french man, but he had to adjust his accent to sound french yet be understandable by the american audience. He has a forced accent, not an authentic french accent, and can obviously speak english very well ;p |

- Canadians do say "Eh" enough to notice it - We have got plenty of lumberjacks and eskimos... I mean inuit... whatever Other than that, we are just like the US, except we aren't corrupt... with the exception of the Liberal Party. The Liberal Party is currently in power, BTW (edited by Gb boy on 07-21-04 11:55 PM) |

Eh, my native country, Japan, is'nt ALL about anime. It really pisses me off because I grew up with a more liberal japanese person, my grandpa. That one little town is anchient and represents the old culture, the essence of japan. So to those people who still believe that japan is nothing but anime, STFU! The french never made french fries, the U.S did... The Mexicans never made tacos (believe it or not), U.S did... I live in San Antonio so I would know... The europeans or americans never made the first iron-clad ship, the Koreans did, a long time ago. The turtleship was made during a few of their fierce naval battles. |

a common misconception about my country is.... that there might be any misconception at all: we're made up of a bunch of overly fat, gun-totin', texas-ranger owning, "i'm going to sue your ass for everything you're worth"-screaming, celebrity obssessed idiots. but not me. i'm smart, skinny, don't scream 2nd ammendment like i'm dying, hate baseball, and can't stand celebrities who get paid to pretend or the retards who give them so much money. in short, i'm better then you all. that's why i'm starting my own country. and i'll have a slew of misconceptions of my newly created country as soon as it's established. stay tuned kids. |
