Right now i only have the Mario games on SNES. Is it worth getting the originals? I plan getting a NES anyways but thats for the old Zeldas.

There is just something about playing the originals with their dated graphics that kicks so much ass. I prefer SMB1 on the NES to it's all-star brother. I'm also trying to find the nes version of the lost level, but no luck so far. but i don't mind the SMB3 update so much. I guess since SMB3 looked so much like it was supposed to be a SNES game in the first place, the newer 16-bits only seemed natural.

If you plan on getting a NES anyway, what's the point of this question? Go to a garage sale, you'll find the originals for a quarter a piece. There's plenty of other fine games for the NES as well, don't limit yourself to the commonly known ones. |

Rather than getting a Famicom, just get SMAS. The game is a real challenge, and a lot o' fun.

I think you missed the entire point, MoM. If you do get an NES, hope that it's one that actually runs and that the games also run. I would be impressed if there's not a ton of errors with any that you'd get in a garage sale. I personally wouldn't mind shooting through SMB2 on the NES...never did own the game...only played it when I was...six or seven at a place I was getting babysat at. |

Yeah, that ROM is out there, but the point is playing on the real thing. I recomend getting a Game Genie, if you can find one. I can get lots of my slightly damaged carts to work if I use that thing, for some reason. |

Pawn shops and garage sales are the only place your going to find an operational NES. Pawn shops charge outrageously for any system, a NES might be around 40 dollars. Emulate it and get a NES pc adapter for your controller, and it'll be almost the same thing.

well your the lucky one, ours was a dust magnet and required every trick in the book to get it to stop blinking. During it's dying days of the Playstaion reign, I started to open the little guy open and clean it from the inside from time to time. But that only delayed the inevitable. besides, it was a time before retro gaming, so it was no big loss. i still had my gameboy to boot! |
