Sorry if this seems like a newbie question... I've never done images before. I NEED to learn how! Do you have to link to an internet picture to get an image to display? If so, how is it possible for me to display my screenshots from a game on the forum? I have 9 screenshots taken from a Rom hack, which I'm trying to post in the Rom hacking forum, but I don't know how to get them to display. If I display the images from the hard drive, I believe it should only appear on the computer with those images on the hard drive. I had the same problem with my avatar... it only appeared on one computer until I changed the pathname to an internet pic.

So, how do I get my screenshots on the internet then? It doesn't seem possible. But any help I can get I'll take. Thanks. --Schwa

Register an acount on a free hosting service, most known ones are
Lycos,
Angelfire and
Photobucket

Especially the last one is nice..

Then simply upload your images, either with your browser, or (better), if the service provides it, using an FTP client (I recommend FileZilla; the data you usually receive in your confirmation mail).

Some hosts don't allow direct hotlinking, in that case simply upload the file normally and rename its extension to .txt on the server (!).

Then use some HTML or [img][/img] to show it:

I would recommend photobucket.com or piczonline.com. They both have very nice interfaces.

But will they load .png files? All my screenshots are .png files. They came out like that when I took the screenshots, and I can't change the extension.

No, upload them normally; when they are on the server (use the "rename" option on the browser upload page or inside your FTP), then rename their extension to .txt
Some browsers (e. g. Mozilla/Firefox sometimes ) have problems with that, but in IE it should work all the way; changing the file name online doesn't affect the MIME type though, but the browser still will display them as images

That only happens with certain image hosts. Uploading them as a .png should work fine, my signature is a png . In most emulators you have the option to capture screens as either BMPs or PNGs, but you wouldn't want to save them as BMP...

It should be noted that with photobucket.com, you DO NOT have to change the extension to .txt. So don't bother.

Keep this in mind, the only extensions you want to use for loading on the internet is .PNG, .GIF, and .JPG.

It should also be noted that Angelfire, Tripod and Freehosts suck major donkey balls and don't deserve to exist. As in avoid them. Geocities is alright, you get 3GB a month and 15MB of space (and you can always make multiple accounts if you need more ).

Nice idea, as stated longer on the old board. But me, since a longer time Netscape, then Firefox user, don't buy the joke with that oversized "avatar" ... since these white rectangles with the red X inside are IE-specific only

I've used Photobucket ever since Angelfire stopped allowing off-site linking of pictures.
I've had no problems with Photobucket, and it's easy to use and offers plenty of space for your pictures.

Free web-hosts do indeed need to go away, or revamp ALL of their policies and improve their services to not be so....what's that word I'm looking for....

*chickenlump remembers the word, but doesn't like to curse*

Fucked didily up. Photobucket is a great image host, I think its probably the best one in terms of storage and linking.
