If someone posts on a non-time related topic with something valueable to be read, than it shouldn't matter at all the last time an user posted in the topic before them. Unless of course, theres another thread with the same topic thats newer. I understand why the rules for bumping is in place and I understand most of the people who get in trouble for bumping is because they bumped old threads with posts like "Yea, I seen it also" or something similar while someone is asking your view on a movie. Meh. I'm going to agree with the whole EvillerLegion response. there shouldn't be any sort of rules per se, but instead have them replaced with common sense |

Heh, my answer is easy in that poll [x]Yes [ ] No Like most of the people said, it should depend individually; as for me, if someone is new and bumped a thread once, I won'T to anything but, depending on what thread it is, close it and ask the user to stop bumping in future. If he/she doesn't react, there's still a way by getting harsher and harsher |

Well... I voted yes... Doing the "I agree" 3 month post bump isnt exactly the best thing in the world. But say someone comes along with a whole chunk of information to contribute. Wouldnt it make more sense to put it in the original topic? Personally, Id say if you want to revive a thread, you better have some good information to back up the bump with, otherwise its Bye Bye thread. Like in rom-hacking. If you come out with a new demo after 3 months of work, why not put it in your old thread instead of making a new "OMG ITS A DEMO" thread. |

I voted yes, but I really think that the whole common sense thing would work the best. If people actually use common sense. If the bumb is a spam, but the thread is good only count that as a spam and then ignore it.

It's fine how it is. The only exception which many have mentioned should be updating threads on ROM hacks. But personally I think you only need to make a thread when you have completed a rom hack or demo, instead of "omg im gonna hax a rom dont no when itll be done but its of mario11!!!!!!!!11111" (edited by Gb boy on 07-18-04 05:58 PM) |

(Sorry,I read the first post, but I need to go to work so I'll come back and read the rest later). The bumping rule has always seemed very odd to me. This is the only board that really has the 2 week rule, which has always seemed like a very short amount of time. Now, I obviously understand the rule for newbie threads, and for those I usually like to keep them even slightly shorter then that., and threads that have a certain purpose (like if someone has a problem, but then it was solved). But otherwise I think it should be lengthened. This doesn't mean they can be bumped with a one word post or spam though. They should be good posts and actually have a point to them. ~Delial |

Just to be safe, I keep a one week rule in consideration. If the activity is lacking and the thread is getting buried at a high rate, I don't bother with it anymore. So I guess it all depends and comes down to one thing. Should we assume the thread would last 1 to 2 weeks of idle activity before the next post is considered a bump? I'd say a whole month at the most and about a week at least. |

2 weeks does seem like a really short amount of time. I wouldn't say to change it, bumping is fairly annoying, but I'd say maybe expand it to a month or so.

I usually give the thread 3 weeks at most to bump it. Anything under that is a little too early, well to me. Some forums sometimes aren't very active and it wouldn't matter too much if a few threads were bumped a little. You should just at least be able to have a decent amount of information to contribute like others have said.

Might depend on forum activity, yeah... But when someone bumps a newbie thread or birthday thread after two weeks (and without any real reason), then... Most bumps are the cause of spam or a spree. |
