What's up with the "Mario Starting Location" sprite in the LM Overworld editor? Yes, I know that you can move him around, but I'm talking about what it looks like. Sometimes, it's Mario, sometimes, it's Luigi and IIRC, there's sometimes Mario on a red Yoshi. It doesn't seem to be random, like something based on a byte in the ROM or so... Can anyone help me to understand? Fu?

I've actually never noticed this before. Maybe it depends on where you put the sprite?

No. I've seen both Mario, Luigi and IIRC, Mario on a red Yoshi without moving it at all...

I've seen Mario and Mario on a Red Yoshi, but Luigi? That's odd, ask Fu, it might be a plan for the next feature, the changing of the Mario overworld sprite.

Yeah. I haven't seen Mario on Yoshi and prior to today I'd only seen Mario, but then I just saw Luigi just now, and I have no friggin clue how to move that thing. However, is is likely that it is not that I had never seen Luigi, but rather that I was paying extra attention after having seen this thread.

Ok... It was like I thought (but didn't post). It's affected by date! The 17:th of March seems to show Luigi (at least on my computer). The rest of the dates in March (haven't checked every date, but most of them) shows Mario. Maybe there's something special about 17/3? Fu's birthday?

Edit: Hmmmm... IIRC, I only saw Mario on Yoshi the first time I loaded this version of LM... Hmmm... *Checks registry... Tomorrow...*

I guess it's probably just some random feature. To make it not look so very boring. You'd think that staring at that same sprite would get boring after a while.

I think I know why....

Because it's St. Patrick's Day! And that would explain Luigi, since he's green. I remember the Red Yoshi thing being sometime in February, maybe Valentine's Day. Maybe it's based on holidays? I sure think so!

I think that is it. I tried it out. I changed the date on my computer to Christmas and Mario was riding Yoshi.

Neat! I noticed a Mario on a Yellow Yoshi before, but I never really paid to much attention...
I wonder wha other date-activated features are in LM?

Haha, cute, date-activated features. I see Luigi!

I remember The Incredible Machine 2 had objects that could only be placed on certain holidays, like a cheesy Santa lamp and (I think) a leprechaun...

Being as you can change the date on your computer, it should be easy enough to figure out.

Woo Hoo! it works, and it is activated by holidays for sure.

Holidays that fall on a certian day in the week won't do anything because the date changes each year (such as Thanksgiving, Good Friday, Easter, etc.).

Holidays that I've tried:

Holloween:
Still Just Mario

Christmas:
Mario riding Red Yoshi

Valentines:
Still Just Mario

St. Patrick's Day:
Luigi

April Fools Day:
Mario riding Green Yoshi

4th of July (American Independance Day):
Still Just Mario

That being said, on what day does it show Mario on a Red Yoshi? Yellow Yoshi?
