I'm looking for a software that can record in like... a .avi whats' being done at my screen. For example, I would like to record myself playing to a game.

I think a TV Tuner can do that, but I don't want to buy hardware, I want to have a software that does that.

Anyone knows if that kind of program exists?

It sure does! This is how I broadcast my desktop (with an emulator on it) over winamp tv occasionally.

I use Camtasia Studio. Camtasia Recorder (included with the studio) will record a definable (and variable, even live during recording!!) area of your desktop. It's moveable while recording too, so you can have fancy shmancy scrolling stuff too. And it can zoom live. Best of all, any recording program will be able to use camtasia as it's video source, (for example, you know your webcams appear on the video-capture list? Camtasia will appear too. ) so you can use it with broadcasting software.

I don't remember the url to it, sorry, and it's also not freeware, but you could probably find a serial off of a certain member here who's name is a certain character from Megaman, and is the opposite of treble, and begins with ||.

You could probably google it, and the homepage may come up.

well...if you record to video, and then use a DV camera, that will do the same thing to...but I guess that requires you to have video editing software like Adobe Premiere or Ulead VisualStudio and a DV camera...

Camtasia exists here in the Download tab. And I use it too, every so often. That's probably what you're looking for...I believe I saw Drag use it one time to show off his poor ass Tetris Worlds skills on the GBA and then I got it off that site to try and show him up but my bandwidth sucked.

Thx! it works... but very slow :| What is your computer guys? Is it lagging when you start the program? cause for me it is :|

It records at like 4 frames per second. Maybe it is because the game I want to record drains too much juice?

It didn't really allow for a decent rate for myself either...although I believe there's a way to change that in the options...but I haven't messed with it enough to see what it does.

And mine's a 1.0 GHz P3 with nominal specs for a computer 3 years ago...you can tell...mine's outdated for stuff like this...especially since I don't have a decent vid card.

Thanks, I love you too! I'm more of a Tetris DX person myself...

Anyway, have you tried changing the FPS around? I usually keep it around 8 fps, because that's what the winamp tv thing can display without having to rebuffer 10000 times.

FPS setting can be found in tools > options.

Camtasia Studio, the menu thing lags when I start it up, but if I just start up camtasia recorder from the task bar menu, it doesn't lag.

It also depends on the capture area size ... if you try to do a whole 1024x768 capture, or even larger with your 2 screens, it's going to be slow But something smaller like 320x240 should work well enough ... like this or this ...

And yep, I used Camtasia too

15 frames a sec. This didn't lag you out at all or anything?

I would wonder if I could do that with the stuff I've got on my comp.

You will need 2 things...

First, you need a shoutcast server. Configure that up, so people can connect to you.

Next, there's a package available at nullsoft that's called NSVTools or something. In it is a program called nsvcap, which is somewhat like when you broadcast audio over winamp, except nsvcap will capture either just video, or both video and audio. If you have camtasia installed, you will see it in the list of capture devices in nsvcap (and any other program that uses a capture device like a webcam or something). Once everything is set up, set camtasia recorder to LIVE mode, and hit record. Then hit start on nsvcap. There you go. If you need a better tutorial, this is JUST LIKE using shoutcast to broadcast audio.
