I don't know when my editor will be finished. It depends on a lot of things and I've got IRL stuff to sort out too. Also, gathering the necessary datas needed for the editor is both tedious and time consuming. Only the basics are there right now (although I implemented saving yesterday which seems to work okay) and there's still a crapload of stuff left to do. But rest assured I will keep people updated on the editor's development.

Call it a hunch, but i believe once this new editor is complete there will be a flood of new SMB3 hacks the likes of which the world has never seen since that one dude built that big boat.

If you want to (not putting pressure on you), you can add a feature to edit the fireball attributes. I have data for it.



offset $63E2

1C - normal

1B - explode on contact with anything (except Mario)

19 - appear in the air and just bounce along the top of the sky

15 - straight forward

13 - same but bounces off the corners of blocks every now and again.

10 - explode on contact but don't hurt anything

FF - explode on Mario (hehe) but don't hurt him

CF - kill first enemy on the screen when you shoot a fireball regardless on whether or not you actually hit it

9F - shoot a fireball then jump to launch into the air; jump and shoot a fireball in the air to either shoot up or shoot down (sometimes through floor)

Got info from thread at TEK.

I'm not sure why it really needs to be stickied, though. Not unless hukka was frequently coming out with updating us on the progress, which he isn't really. If it dies, and he has a big "telling us what's new" spree, he can just bring it back up himself.

I'd love to see a flood of new Super Mario Bros. 3 hacks. I prefer it to Super Mario World, yet the pool of hacks is pretty vacant lately, save for my hack, Ringo's hack, and a certain Ultra Mario Bros. whose existance I'd rather completely forget.

but that's good think Ringo. The concept of a suit editor is pretty sweet. way back when, when i first began playing SMB3, the game seemed limitless! I was hoping for a bear suit. the attack would be similar to the tail, but mario would swipe a paw instead and he could take out thwomps and stuff. at least the Tanooki suit was visually close to my imagination plus the statue end of it was totally kick ass.

Hope you don't mind two more screenshots:

Here's the first level of a hack that never really went anywhere. The graphics and palette displayed are loaded from the ROM with the exception of enemy sprites.


And here is a simple editor that allows editing of the graphic tiles that are used to draw objects. It shows M3I's object definition+graphics on the right. Currently it only uses files for loading and saving, though, as I don't have the ROM locations for the datas yet. Editing SuperLuigi.nes here.


Oh, and I don't really need any more beta testers...

This is great. Looking like the best editor yet. I don't hack Mario 3 because the other 2 editors seem to have too many limitations to them. This one is looking very very promising. When completed, I think I will be back into the Mario 3 hacking business. Keep up the awesome work.
