it is because people demand Window versions...if less people asked for work on windows, he would work more on DOS

Or if more people had a need for a DOS version. Let's face it, most people won't run a DOS emu if they can run the exact same one in Windows. |

DOS is dead...was ever since Windows 95 came into play...and was really dead after 98 came out. There's really not much of a need for people to use the DOS version unless you have an outdated comp or an outdated OS or just prefer to use DOSbox-like emulation (dunno why you would).

*OR* unless there's a certain emulator you really want to try out that's DOS-based only. There's still some decent old ones out there. I'd think that 2k and XP were the real DOS turning points but... *shrugs* I fear what the next Windows OS will do to DOS support. |

Really neat emulator; it even runs Zelda - Four Swords on my older machine I'd like a "black background - game centered in the middle or the screen" option like in BGB which emulates GB and GBC ROMs; but the window is even resizable, woot The ROM chrashed and I also have problems with saving |

Originally posted by Ranko Actually, DOS is still used in many places. There are a few systems, such as reservation systems for example, that do not need the power of the newer machines to do the job. EDIT: Here is the article that says this. Note: PC World wrote the article... Note2: Okay, DOS isn't being picked up by new people but it still hasn't disappeared... However, for someone to still be using DOS at home, then you have a point... (edited by neotransotaku on 07-25-04 12:20 AM) (edited by neotransotaku on 07-25-04 12:23 AM) |

Practically every time I see a computer used for reservations, sales, and other such things, it's an old computer (the kind you get for 10 bucks at a garage sale) running DOS. It's far from dead. These people realize that a computer that does nothing but run a small database program need not be a computer capable of doing anything else. Why not cut costs and use computers that'd barely run Win95? They're good enough if you use DOS for it.

I speak of pure DOS, neo. That HAS been dead since 95. Those that don't have a dated system know that they don't use DOS as an OS anymore...it's Windows (if you're in Microsoft's division of operating systems, that is). Not that I didn't mind using it back in the day, in fact I was pretty good with the command-line stuff...but it is riding on 2004 now...DOS was made in 1981. I doubt that there's much use for the majority left. Ten or fifteen years ago, maybe. |

Not to tell you that MS-DOS wasn't the only one, there was Amiga DOS and alot of other DOS'es which weren't related to MS-DOS at all. And I have considered installing Freedos on one computer, go figure. DOS is outdated becuse of one thing, it can only normally run one program at time. ...i'm going to try the DOS version of NO$GBA as soon I get freedos installed. |
