Rain woke up.
It was either very early, or very late, judging by the fact that the moon was softly litting the nearby bed table, making it a bit easier for her to find the clock she always put backwards, in order to have her sleep disturbed by nothing, not even the dimly lit pad of her alarm clock.
Why did she keep it anyway?
She always woke up around this time lately, not really knowing why.
Rain sighed, slipped out of the bed and prepared herself to go out in the night's cold.

Ranko shook her head after about five minutes of tears. What was she doing? She was acting all pathetic at the cost of what? The fact that she wasn't in the best of positions right now and she was a long ways away from home?

She had trained to be a 'man amongst men' via a decade-long training trip, she had been in worse positions that she was currently...it was just...she was never alone about anything like this either. As much as she would like to admit that she knew people here that she deeply cared for, they really didn't apply to the people that matter to her the most...

She got out of bed and went out the door in the usual tank and shorts combo she normally wore. She sighed and leaned against the back of it with her head towards the floor wearing a solemn look on her face. Her bloodshot eyes told everyone that she was definitely not in the best of moods as she put the back of her hand against her right eye to get rid of some of the excess moisture that was still trying to make it's exit from her.

Ranko: "...dammit..."

As she moved without a sound through the moonlit forest, Rain heared the typical sounds of the small nightlife, trying to get away from her.
She stopped to sniff the wonderful aroma that covered the forest like a veil, wonderingif she'd ever not smell the possible prey in it aswell.
As she lowered her head, her eyes lit up bright red for a moment. Soon after, she set up for a sprint, chasing something she only heared for now. The deer had been silent, but not silent enough for the hungry Rain.
She climbed into a tree looking over the small stream, and jumped onto the deer, snapping its neck with a brute twist of her fragile looking arms. After satisfying her hunger, she fell asleep next to the deer, using it's soft belly fur as a pillow.
It would've looked cute, if it weren't for the blood covering the scene.

Ranko shook her head. Why was she still up and crying? She should head back to bed, maybe try to cram in a few more hours of sleep that was eluding her.

Maybe if it wasn't for the fact that it was extremely hard to do so as the nights proressed. It scared her to sleep. Yes, it didn't sit well with her either, not being able to sleep and being scared of something, anything, but eventually she figured she would get used to it, or go insane trying. She didn't like the second option.

Ranko: "C'mon...snap out of it."

Ranko lightly slapped herself to get her bearings straight, maybe in spite of the lack of people to do it for her. She was pretty bad off in terms of feelings right now, which was something she wasn't used to. Must be being a girl so much.

She went back into her room, closed the door, sighed, and didn't move. All she did was keep staring at the floor in hopes that doing so would find her a way to solve the huge problem she had been dropped in.

Meanwhile, just a few doors down, Colleen's having a rough time getting to sleep. Sure, there's a lot of stuff going through his mind... some emotions, some questions, some idle thoughts... but he's also just not that tired for some reason.

It's a good thing too, because thanks to the relative silence that occupied the castle tonight, it wasn't too hard to hear some rustling coming from Ranko's room... followed by a little bit of crying.

It wasn't bawling or anything like that, but Colleen wasn't stupid. He knew something was wrong.

.....*sigh*

Colleen slowly gets out of bed and goes to the bathroom to get a drink of water, then slowly heads down the hall to Ranko's room and knocks on the door softly so as not to disturb anyone else.

That knock was enough to shake Ranko out of her run of depression for an instant with a slight jump.

Ranko: "Ohh...shit."

Ranko sniffed for a second, dried her eyes (poorly), and opened up the door with a fake smile.

...Oh...him.

Ranko: "Colleen? Wh...what are you doing up?"

Um...

Colleen was going to think of a really good excuse but decided that Ranko was already emotionally fragile enough with her damp red eyes.

I was having trouble getting to sleep and as I was trying to, I heard something coming from your room. Just wanted to see if everything was... OK.

Given the fact that Colleen's room was a ways off, Ranko thought of one of two things: either she was bawling rather loudly without her knowledge or the castle had really poor soundproofing. She didn't think the latter was true.

Ranko: "Oh..."

Ranko didn't have much more to say than that. She didn't have the will to bash Colleen for butting into her business, too tired to do so.

Ranko: "It's just...It's just been a really long past few days. I don't even know if Anya is going to be all right...I was surprised I did......."

Ranko trailed off after that point. The whole demon thing was hell to explain before and she didn't want to go into it again if she didn't have to, so instead she decided to shrug it off.

Ranko: "Look...I'm fine. It's just I'm worried for Anya is all."

...I'm sure she'll be alright. *sighs* It is Anya, after all. Don't worry about it.

Colleen stares at Ranko for a second... she looks totally beat.

Look... Maybe it's best for you to just get some rest. Get a drink of water and then just lie down. Even if you don't go to sleep, it's better than just sitting around and cr... er... thinking.

Ranko heard the slip and winced. Dammit, she didn't need to be seen like this. It did wonders on her esteem, bawling like a girl in front of people that she knew. Heh...that's all she needed...someone that really knew her well seeing her like this...

Ranko: "I'm not so sure Colleen...I'm really not so sure..."

Ranko shook her head and decided to come off it. All it was was a sealing...Anya had to have whatever influence on her stopped, and it was done. She should be happy for that much at least.

The question was if she survived it or not...only time would tell and Ranko didn't really have the will to wait around and do nothing helplessly.

But...Colleen was right. Sitting around and crying wasn't going to do a lot of good. At least he was good for advice at times...

Ranko: "Colleen...thanks. I just need some time is all...hopefully she comes around."

Ranko smirked and went back in her bedroom but stopped short of closing it.

Ranko: "Oh...and if you don't want a really pissy person in the morning, you won't wake me before I want to get up. Fair warning."

Ranko closed the door. Yea, among other things...it was -that- time...which wasn't a fun thing to adjust to over the past few months...

.....

Colleen wanted to make a comment about it possibly being Ranko's time of the month but he held back. One, he knew it was likely true; two, he wanted to go to sleep by himself and not any other way.)

...Night.

Colleen trudges back to his room and lies on top of his covers. It's still going to be a while before he drifts off... hopefully it's before light starts coming through the windows.

Considering that was only four hours off...

Anyways, fast forwards our crew a few hours and some much needed sleep later, 10 AM rolls around:

Ranko: "Mm?"

It was extremely tough to keep asleep when there was pure and unyielding light making it's annoying point on your face. Ranko figured that out the hard way and rolled over to try to sleep, but it was already too late, her sleep pattern was broken. She sighed. This wasn't a good last few days.

But then, she figured that keeping in this drab tone was going to make it even worse. It was extremely tough to keep herself in a somewhat cheerful mood given a) her worries towards Anya and the events of the past few days and b) her current...condition...it was almost an all-odds-against-you factor.

She flashed back in her mind briefly before she went to bed last night:

>>>

Ranko: "Dammit...this whole time I was trying to get something to help Anya...and it ends up almost killing her..."

Ranko paced a few times. This bugged her to no end. But it wasn't like it was entirely her fault. All she wanted was some way to help Anya through the time that she was possessed by something, and each time she had tried to help her, she either lost track of Anya instantly, or worse...thanking one of the predicaments she was in now...coming close to dying due to fighting an uber-powered Anya possessed by whatever the heck it was.

In all fairness, it was a blessing and a curse. She didn't know what she was getting herself into, nor did she really care. There wasn't much left that she had to live for and a friend was in trouble. Why not?

She just...didn't know the repercussions of her actions would result in...

...

Ranko took a look at the mirror in her room for a second, frowning at the image that she saw. There was a bleach-white faced redhead staring back at her, obviously worn from crying and losing a large amount of sleep.

Curiousity won her over. After a few seconds, some modifications to herself thanks to her 'answer', a large tearing sound, and a hell of a lot of pain later, she took another glance, trying to keep her voice down to the amount of nerves that were flaring in protest and breathing heavily. What she saw brought her up short...

Blue hair, undone from the loose ponytail that she had been keeping for the past few months thanks to the change and a bit longer in length, deeper blue eyes with a loss of the iris patterns in them, without any glint. Her skin was still white, but it was tinted a slight color of blue, but maybe that was the moonlight streaming in, at the moment, she didn't know. Probably the most prominent change was the fact that she had somehow acquired a wingspan on her back. Black and almost bat-like; a span of almost the height of her body. There were some black symbols near the base of her neck and one on the right side of her face. She didn't exactly know what they meant or if they meant anything at all.

She almost couldn't believe what she was looking at. This was what she looked like when she took Anya on? No wonder she had wide-eyed expressions from everyone after she was done. She thought nothing of it at the time.

She felt an almost unending power running through her. It was almost like being on some sort of adrenaline rush, only much more apparent, and an urge to use that power in whatever way she could, but she shook her head and shrugged the feeling off.

What she couldn't shrug off though, was what she heard next:

~You and I are one.~

Ranko jumped straight up, fearing that someone saw her, but at the same time she felt that she knew the voice. Like something she heard a long time ago.

Ranko: "Who..."

Ranko thought she had something caught in her throat. Her voice sounded awfully different than what she was used to hearing, like she was in someone else's body.

Ranko: "Who's there?"

~You and I will be one. We will always be one. Soon...when I...am...awakened...once again.~

This unsettled Ranko to no end. Was there a ghost in these parts? Still, the eerie feeling that she knew this person edged into her head. It almost hurt thinking about it.

Ranko: "Who are you? Come on out already!"

No reply. The voice didn't make itself apparent again.

Ranko sighed. Was what she did and what she felt she accomplished worth all this? She didn't really know. But she was intent on figuring out a way to get this taken care of, to get her real body back, and to get back home. She knew she had a long way to go before she got there.

Channeling her energy at will she returned her body to normal. She had figured out how to control this in the past few days, but only to a certain degree. The pain was almost too much at times though, so she didn't do it often. She looked at the back of her shirt and shook her head.

Ranko: "Damn..."

She said...noting that her 'real' voice was back...

Ranko: "That was my favorite shirt..."

>>>

Moving forward to where she was now, Ranko figured that what was done, was done. Now she had to make sure that everything was okay. She moved to the side of the bed, stretched (which always felt good in the mornings) and got up to take a shower, knowing it would at least relax her before dealing with the events that would transpire today.
