The first thing that I noticed when I saw it was that the top shape really isn't a triangle. Hold a ruler up to the hypotenuse - it's not a straight line. The second figure bends outward instead of inward, so there's a one unit hole to make up for it since area is conserved. I didn't do the math to see if this checks out though, so it may well be incorrect.

I actually know the real answer to this one. Since the red one is two longer than the green one, the tan ones have to switch places to accomadate. They're not long enough, or the right shape, so the hole appears.

yeah it completely blows my mind.

kornfan, if they all made up the original shape though, shouldn't they be able to fill up the hole seeing as none of the shaps have been altered?

The shape is not the same. The hypotenuse is not a straight line in either shape, though with the thick line and small angle, you can't tell.

Planet one: It basically keeps eliminating the ones you can't be on based on its rules, and eventually forces you to be on the same ending planet by making it impossible to be on any other one. For example, with the starting planets it gives you, you can't possibly land on Pluto in 4 moves, and so on.

For the second one: afterimages. Read up on them and you'll understand.

i haven't been able to find out how that jesus thing works...its weird however it works. also at the main index page of ebaumsword there's a picture that is crazy. i'd also like to figure out how that works. the picture isn't moving but it tricks your mind into thinking that it does.

sorry if this is an old post but i know how the triangle thing works. Ignore the triangles, they are there to delude you. if you look in the first image the two sides of thetriangles define the outer edges of a rectangle. in the first picture the red triangles side touching the rectangle is 3 and the greens is 5 while in the second pic the green is 2 and the red is 8.
5*3=15 squares
6*2=16 squares.

let me show you

pic one %83=15 open squares
* * * * *
* 1 2 3 4 5
* 5 7 8 9 10
* 11 12 13 14 15

pic two 8*2=16
* * * * * * * *
* 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
* 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16

see the two filler blocks only take up 15 squares so an extra space is blank.
