Easier navigation using specific mouse movements ... handy for you or not ?Yes, it is more convenient and even faster than using shortcuts |

Since a longer time the browser Opera offers a very interesting way to navigate through pages, documents and such using the mouse. These mouse gestures usually can replace very often used commands simply by using the left, middle or right mouse button, holding it, performing a certain movement, and releasing the button; usually in a special amount a time. The gestures can be configured in nearly any way; you even may add your own ones Mozilla/Firefox support them too, and there' are nice extensions; I'm using the normal gestures by Optimoz: Extension for Firefox http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=39&vid=146&category=Mouse%20Gestures These are the same gestures as for Mozilla (see that image to see all default gestures which can be performed; scroll down to see the exact routes for each command) and cannot think to surf without them anymore You even can fully customize and add them (well, new commands require JavaScript knowledge, but some things can be done with the included editor ) So, when I want to open a blank new tab, I simply go Go somewhere where is no clickable link or image, hold the left mouse button, move up, release the button and a new tab opens ... for me faster than pressing CTRL+T on my keyboard; and my left hand stays free (which is anyways above the keyboard) ClickOn,Right, Left, Right, ClickOff closes one tab or a window pretty quickly and time saving. What about you; do you use mouse gestures or rather stick to the good old keyboard for navigating/using the most commands inside your browser ? |

I use the right-mouse button's context menu for practically everything. I'd heard of mouse gestures before, but no one ever told me what they were until now... so thanks for the explanation. I think I might try them out at some point. |

I remember trying them when I just got Firefox (or it was Firebird back then), just let say that I switched back quite quickly. Somehow I succed with doing shortcuts when I wasn't doing them. I may as well give it another try soon again thought... What was the first program who used Mouse gestures? The first one I know is Black and white as far I know. |

I heard about the RadialContext pie menu extension for Mozilla a while ago, gave it a shot, and have been hooked ever since. This extension replaces the normal right-click context menu with a pie menu. You can hold the mouse button down as you navigate the pie menus, which means that you're basically doing mouse gestures, but you can always see which option you're selecting, so it's easier to learn the gestures and more difficult to accidentally execute the wrong one. I like to mainly use the mouse when I surf. Quite a lot of my web browsing involves opening up and reading a buttload of links (Google results, message board subforums and threads, etc.), so the pie menus really speed things up. I middle-click links to open them in new tabs, flick the mouse to switch to the next tab, read, and then flick it again to close said tab. I can go forward or back, stop a page load, or refresh with a quick flick of the mouse as well. I never bothered to "graduate" to regular gestures because I already know the RadialContext setup, and it provides me with all the quick functionality I need. |

No, my mouse sucks and I find keyboard shortcuts easier and faster. (Plus I tend to move the mouse around randomly when reading. ) The only time I do is in Lunar Magic to go to the level an exit points to, because there's no other way to do it. (Hint, hint...)

No, for a couple of reasons. One, the family computer uses IE, so no mouse gestures for me. Two, I'm just more confortable with the use of keyboard shortcuts and the like.

No, unless I have to use them. It's just so much faster, those keyboard shortcuts... And I can type faster than I can move my mouse... |
