...then there's the point of view that Christianity started as a radical Jewish sect that got popular.

well, in my belief, christianity exists in the minds of the people who believe in it. christianity, and the belief in christianity, are one and the same, AFAIC. so if christians change, then by (that) definition, christianity itself also changes. they are not independent. Originally posted by LegionThe laws of nature is what most people refer to when they're frightened of same-sex-whatever, really. The laws of nature makes our body gradually deteriorate over time after we have, to be crude, fucked around a bit. This is to make sure we're not rivaling our own kids' in reproducing. Our first 20 years of life is basically building up our body so that we can reproduce. Then after a few years, our body deliberately kills us off in small steps until we're dead. If we were to follow the laws of nature all the time, as mr Legion suggests, we should all die before we're 40. I think we did this once; that was called the Stone Age. We are already going against the laws of nature, lest we'd be beating eachother with tree branches all day long. As a matter of fact, lots of animals have sex for fun. Some monkeys just get at it all day long, even doing same-sex. We're all bisexual to a lesser degree; some to a bigger degree. So, what do our ancestors, scared as fuck of this thing, do? Why, they incorporate some rules against it in their religion, ofcourse! Just because there's only one way to reproduce, it doesn't mean we're not allowed to have sex not to reproduce, or 'the wrong way'. Thus, I think it should be a pretty natural step to open up marriage for all couples. The christian definition of marriages may state Man and Woman; but there are tons of other marriage definitions, and there are also ways, nowadays, for Men to become Women. So what you're saying is pretty much "I don't approve those two to be married. Have one of them preform surgery and become a member of the opposite gender, and you can get married in five minutes in Vegas if you'd like." There are tons more to write on this, but I think that pretty much sums up what I believe. |

I think I've said this before, but here goes anyway. You fall in love with PEOPLE. This isn't dependant on what sex you are. And no, I'm not against it at all. People should be entitled to be as happy as they want. Let them marry. What difference does it make? Why the hell should you care?

See, whats to stop people who love animals from demanding marriages with a cat or whatever? We have to draw the line somewhere... If one group succeeds in redefinig marriage, whats to stop it from simply becoming "a bunch of things that got married"?

Because you can't marry something that isn't elligible for citizenship, obviously... Also, you can't really form a legal contract when one of the parties is unable to make legal decisions for itself. |

Imajin, that's a bit ridiculous. Draw the line at humanity. And who the hell would want to marry a cat?? That's crazy talk. It's pretty ridiculous to make a comparison of marrying a cat to marrying the same sex. I say, let them be happy.

*shrugs* well, you know what, then? Let the guy marry his horse. If he wants to be a wierdo, that's entirely up to him. However, the question comes to mind whether or not the horse 'minds'. Animals don't exactly get a 'say' in something like that... so I guess I retract what I just said. And anyway, I said comparing a cat to a human in terms of same sex marriage is ridiculous, not because someone CAN'T marry an animal, but because it had no meaning. What the hell would a cat or a horse know or care about marriage? If it is meaningless, what value would it hold? (let alone the fact that its wierd) |

Once again, an animal cannot consent to marriage. We have a supreme court for a reason.

So you're saying that my right to marry my cat isn't right, becasue it's illegal, but though same-sex marriage is currently illegal in most states (Defense of Marriage laws), it's right?

Imajin: The cat doesn't have a say in it. Besides, same-sex marriages don't span races.

Originally posted by Imajin Marriage without consent should be illegal. If you can get a cat to speak / write English and consent to marriage, by all means, go ahead and marry the damn cat. By that point that cat is intelligent enough to be considered self-concious - and therefore not just a cat - anyways. The reason marriage without consent is illegal is because: 1. There's plenty of reasons not to. (If I got pissed at some girl I could just keep marrying her over and over again, forcing her to file divorce papers) 2. There's no reason to do so. (I can't think of any. If you have one, let me know.) This is the opposite for gay marriages. There's an argument for both sides. That's why same-sex couples is being debated and marriage without consent is not. |
