...or games that never made it States-side. Just wanted to make a thread about games that might've been played by some of us who emulate or import games but not by a large number of people. It can be console, old or new, just as long as give a somewhat decent review of the game and maybe some info/screenshots of it. Here's an example:

Very decent and addictive fighting game, in my opinion. Pretty easy to pick up too if you're one of those people that doesn't like to figure out a lot special moves (they're practically the same for everyone) and it's quite popular over such internet emulation online gaming mediums as zbattle.net. Graphics are dated, of course, but for a '96 game, this probably doesn't look half bad to the majority. It's a something I've gotten very used to playing over the past few years.

Ever hear of a game called Marvelous? Old SNES game that never got brought stateside or emulated. It looked so good, it was a Treasure-Island style RPG starring three kids with different abilities. One had a baseball and catcher's mitt, one was strong, and another one could like run fast or something. It was supposed to be like Secret of Mana or something, at least in the switching characters on the fly. Don't know how combat would go though. I really wanted to play it.... It seemed like it would be great.

Come to think of it, I don't even think it was finished in Japan. Around 1996 though.

Oh, it was finished and released, Grey. It's usually compared more to Zelda than other games. And sure enough, it was long before Marvelous' creator, Eiji Aonuma, was brought into working on the Zelda series, first as dungeon designer for OoT, and afterwards as Miyamoto's second-in-command (so to speak).

I bought DBZ: Legenary Super Warriors (GBC) a few days ago. (It was cheap. Only $30. And that's cheap in Norway. $85 is what games usually cost.)

Anyway, it's a good game. Yeah, it's DBZ, but try it out even if you don't like the series.
It can be described as Megaman Battle Network withoutrandom battles. Except it's turn-based. You have a dozen moves (or "cards") to choose between, and each round consists of each character making one attack and one defending move. But these "cards" must be paid for with so-called card points, which are earned by using certain "combo moves" (which also come in the shape of cards, and make you push the right sequense of buttons during a certain amount of time)
To succeed, you have to guess what your opponent is about to do. You suspect he'll use his super mega beam attack of death? Use the "every single beam attack fired against you during the next turn misses" card. But wait- damn, he used a combo card instead, making you waste your valuable protection card. And next turn, he destroys you with his deadly beam.
Yeah, it's a bit annoying at times, but it's really a great game. Also, getting all the cards is way less annoying than getting all the chips in MMBN.

Sounds like the card RPG that was on the SNES for that...I forget the name but I have it somewhere on my comp...althought that one had random battles.

And I found out that GW:ED actually was released in the US...a day before it was released in Japan actually. So it looks like that did make it state-side. I don't believe that it made it to Europe, however.

That'd be "Dragon Ball Z: Chou Saiya Densetsu" (or Super Saiyan Legend in english). No, this is completely different. Chou Saiya Densetsu had a system where each card had one attack rank and one defense rank, and you'd choose those with decent ranks. Some of the cards let you use a ki attack instead of attacking normally, these did more damage, but cost ki points (MP) to use. You also had some item cards which changed card ranks, healed characters, upped stats, ect.

Legendary Super Warriors is about countering the cards your opponent use, guessing their moves, choosing whether to use you card point to attack or increase your stats/decrease your opponents. Also, you can move around on the battlefield (choosing to move instead of defending during your defense turn) Moving backwards increases defense but lowers damage dealt, moving fowards does the opposite (so you want to move into the opponents face before using your uber attack of death). You can also move between the air and ground, since physical attacks are more powerful if the guy you hit is standing on the ground, while Ki attacks do more damage to one flying. There's much more strategy involved in this game (and it's much faster than Chou Saiya, which found it nessecary to make the characters pummel each other for 10 seconds each time you made a move)

I've currently made it to the battle between Gohan and Kuririn VS Ginyu-Goku and Jeese. Kuririn is way too weak, and Gohan can't handle both opponents, so I'm kinda stuck.

For the record, here's the battles you have to fight up to this point:
Gohan VS Piccolo
Gohan VS Nappa
Goku VS Vegeta
Gohan VS Vegeta
Gohan or Kuririn VS Ghurt
Gohan or Kuririn VS Rikum
Any two of Goku, Gohan and Kuririn VS Butta and Jeese

Vib Ribbon - PSX (1999)

Vib ribbon is a Rhythm action game like you've never seen before, you control a rabbit named "Vibri" and you guide her along this string by pressing various prompts in time with the music. Do well and you rack up the points. Do badly, and Vibri will "Devolve" to various forms inclusing a frog and a worm. Mess up as a worm and it's game over.

Vib Ribbon has various things unique for it. The first would have to be the only reason it was never released in the U.S - The Graphics. The Wireframe graphics are reminiscent of the early 8-bit consoles (like the Atari 8600), however there are a few graphical flourishes like scaling and zooming to remind us that this IS the 21st centuary.

The second is the fact that you can play Vib Ribbon with any CD you own (including CD-R's). This means that Vib Ribbon has theroetically infinate levels.

The songs already on the game are prefectly adqeuate and extremely catchy Engrish J-pop by the band "Laugh and Beats". There's also an introduction to how to play the game sang by Vibri herself, which is delightful.

Vib Ribbon is a game that will never age. Even now, every time I buy a new CD, I give it a whirl in Vibri's world to see how it holds up. However it's lacklustre performance in the West meant that it's sequel (Mojib Ribbon) and it's sequel's Sequel (Can't remember it's name but it's not out in Japan yet). will probably never see the light of day outside it's native Japan. This is a shame, and I;d rather one Vib Ribbon than a million generic sneak-em-up FPS'

Kuru Kuru Kururin saw a European release, but not the second game.

Basicly, you controll a rotating stick trough mazes and avoid hitting / touching the walls.

Spike that with good sound, nice graphics and in part 2 with more mazes and fun minigames.

I played both games for hours.

Ahh!! When I saw the thread, I was getting all ready to write about VIB Ribbon, but you pretty much covered it already! VIB Ribbon is my favorite game of all time... I really wish it could have came out in the US. It's really a shame that so many people never even got the chance to try it.

And, KawaiiImoto-e, I too have put hours into both Kuru Kuru Kururin games. Mastered the 1st one, stars on all stages... However, I can't beat the super super final secret stage in Kururin Paradise without getting hit. I have a star on every other stage, except for that one.

Something interesting... At E3 in 2002, there was an English Kururin Paradise. However, it still remains unreleased in the US. I suppose they made an English translation just for E3! What a drag, would have been cool if they released that here too...

was kuru kuru kuruin anything like "irratating stick" for the PSX? I never played either game, but i think irratating stick was a game i kept picking up because of the title, but ultimatly not buying because of the game itself.

The Kururin games basically have you piloting a rotating stick through a series of levels. There's a few obstacles you have to avoid, but basically all you have to do is avoid hitting the walls. Hit them too many times and you die.

Of course, there's healing points in the longer levels, so it's not like you have to pilot the stick through a level for 2 minutes and then mess up at the end.

Kuru Kuru Kururin, as Imoto stated, was released in Europe when the GBA launched. It never saw an American release. Kururin Paradise was supposed to see a North American release but I fear those plans have been shelved.
