Hi.

I have a question about the Big Boo boss.

When he is put in at the end of a Ghost House, is there a way to "manipulate" the battle so that beating him takes you to the standard exit of the Ghost House (that is, if the Ghost House in question has no secret exit)?

Thanks in advance.

I think you would have to do some ASM hacking in order to do that. You can also use it to change the amount of hits it takes for a boss to die. Very difficult but I'm not a real pro at it. Just a tip...

What you can do is make it do the event, beat the boss, it does the next event, and then the next level does the same event as you set for the ghost house.

Example:

Let's say you use Event 20 for the ghost house. When you beat the Big Boo Boss, it does event 21. After that, the next level is beat. Event 20 is then passed.

This might work...

That's strange...in my hack, Big Boo activates the standard exit. I think in the original SMW, Big Boo activates the secret exit, maybe it has something to do with that particular level. You could try changing the level number.

If it triggers the secret exit consistently, change the standard exit to that of the exit behind that number. In other words, if the event is 1E, change the standard exit to 1D. Considering you have no standard exit for that level, everything should be perfectly fine. Hopefully.

So you all tried (un)checking the secret level enabled if the level is beaten? If it goes to the level with with the default event thereafter, with or without the secret level trigger checked, then there is definately something wrong. Maybe you all should discuss any little glitches in LM with FuSoYa...

Riiight! Come to think of it, I suppose it would piss him off a little, assuming his help files are thorough enough to at least give you a hint or idea. But do you all have a solution as to how this little predicament can at least be figured out?

Yes... read the sprite's tool tip. The Big Boo boss will only activate the secret exit for one particular level number in the game. For the rest, it does the normal exit. Zero-G and I noticed it a few days before DWTLC was due to be released, as we were testing the tower...

'is very surprised'

Hey, just curious, but is it possible to have Mario battle two Big Boo bosses at the same time?

From what I've seen from Mario Adventure (which uses multiple Boombooms in the same room) I would expect that as soon as you kill one of the Big Boo Bosses, you instantly clear the level. Probably not the desired effect, but at least it adds some challenge.

I think that'd be too many sprites. Plus, they'd probably interfere with eachother.

So... Anyone tracked down how to change what level # it does the secret exit for? (What about 113?)

The level number used for the Big Boo Boss secret exit is stored at $4C0C (PC). I tracked it down and changed it for DWTLC, since at the time I needed to verify that it really did work that way instead of being the result of a glitch.
