| Ayo.. The way you guys Role Play now is sort of... boring o.O I mean, we should be able to put more use of detail. A movie script doesn't really have enough detail for some people. I have a good suggestion for the "Story Forum." One way is for us to RP or Role-Play. RP (my definition): You should be able to write with one or more people and with detail, without the movie script types. RPing now--- Tim: Hi there! Let's go get a beer... do you have any money? I lost mine in a bar fight... Joe: Oh yeah, I want a beer! How about down the street? Money? Gawd! You always lose yours!! Keep it somewhere where they can't find it!! New RPing--- Tim appears by the doorway of Joe's house. He flicks off his hat with one finger and puts it on the table standing next to him. He coughs to get Joe's attention. "Hey there! Let's go get a beer... do you have any money? I lost mine yesterday in a bar fight..." said Joe, with a smug look on his face. Joe turns around, his long trench coat wipping around with him. He pulled a cigar out of the corner of his mouth and held it between his fingers. "Oh yeah, I want a beer! How about down the street? Money? Gawd! You always lose your's! Keep it somewhere where they can't find it!" said Joe as he blew a circle of smoke into the air next to him. Do you see the difference? I hope that explained a lot... I was starting to think that I was just plain confusing.. XDD Well, if you need anything else to be explained (I have a gut feeling that I left something unexplained), juss tell me.... | Uh huh. So, what you're saying is you want people do be more detailed, right? That's not really a "new way". That's... More detailed. And to an extent, it's better, and to an extent, it's worse. Sure, it's more meaningful, but it makes reading it a lot more boring. So much of that could be cut out and it'd mean the same thing. |

| Edit: Kyouji, I haven't really seen you do role playing. You're not posting here just to tack on another post onto your belt, are you? We used to have tons of stories like that. Unfortunately, we lost all that good stuff in the board wipe long ago. It's quite true that "your" way of RPing would reduce spam. Unfortunately, you posted this in the wrong forum ('ey, mods.. Can you move it over to the Story Forum?  ), and there's always going to be people not getting it.My style of RPing is a mixture of those two. There hasn't been a story that's been made that makes me me feel like converting to complete story style. However, in the Sim-Battle, I tend to do complete story. | I hate super descriptive stories. They seem just a little to boring to read and since this is meant to be fun I don't understand why it really matters. I don't see very much dialouge in a single post unless it is needed and tht is all. | |||

Then one day I stopped and started to SF how I normally would write a story. For the most part, everyone has their own style, to some degree and some people are used to that and that's why they'll only SF with those said people. |

My usual format, using your example...Tim appears by the doorway of Joe's house. He flicks off his hat with one finger and puts it on the table next to him. He coughs to get Joe's attention, then says with a smug look on his face... It's a sort of mixture, to be sure. Detailed stuff gets italics, dialog gets script format. Simple actions that don't require much description are placed within asterisks inside the dialog, as do sound effects. There are other specific things, though, for example Out-of-Character discussion is placed in ((double parenthesis)) and gets separated from the rest of the text by a line of ten dashes, ----------. The line of ten dashes is also used to represent other things, such as when two separate events are taking place in two separate locations, one is described first followed by ---------- and then usually a Meanwhile... Talking that is done in a language the rest of the main characters should, for the most part, not understand (AKA which would be translated with subtitles if this were a TV show or movie) gets placed within a < As the firefight raged on, JDavis took shelter behind a crate. I'm going to go ahead and stop there before I make a whole story out of this thing  You get the point, anyway. |
