Would it be easy to code something that checks how many times the strings '<table>' and '</table>' appear in the header and sig, and make sure that they're equal before updating the profile?

Just for table? Why not most of the common HTML tags to prevent screwy posting accidents?

Probably because faulty tables are several thousand times more annoying than all other errors, and it'd be easier on whoever codes it to only need to block one thing.

A better idea would be to use a complete HTML validator and policy enforcer. This site uses regular expressions to filter submitted data. Regular expression filters can and sometimes do fail in ways that are not obvious to the person that creates them.

All fields that accept HTML would be processed with an appropriate set of rules to prevent broken HTML and cookie theft.

Layouts would need to be processed when they are first submitted and processed again with submitted posts. That is to prevent interactions between layouts and posts that result in broken or prohibited markup.

My idea is not as easy, but it is more reliable.

put the code you have into front page or if you dont have it, put the code into notepad and save it as a .html file on your Pc then open it.

What the FUCK was that about, Metroid? ARRGH MY BRAIN.

Anyway, I think that searching for the <table> stuff would work nicely. It sure seems like it'd work, since after all Jesp found some code oh PHP.net that checked for proper closing of tags [and shouldn't be too hard to change it to <table> only]

Cellar Dweller's idea just sucks. I use a lot of wierd and/or non-standard crap [my last layout showed that well, heh; only worked in Opera but at least it didn't fuck things up XDDD] ... Plus it'd speed up board time like hell... and that idea would probably take a very, VERY long time to do.
