$5 says that Curseur.EXE is probably spyware. $2.50 says something on it is.

Or it's Acmlm's cursor counter, I checked after Curseur.EXE and just found a site in french.

I wonder which OS Acmlm use on that computer, Probably Windows 2000 or Win XP. Probably pro versions too...

curseur.exe is indeed Acmlm's cursor meter.

I should know, I've been running it for about 6 months without problems and have in excess (if you include the reset from 100mP) about 185MP. w00t.

Acmlm has much more though: P

Windos on a server? Now isn't that stupid

@Colleen, wtf is $5 and $2.50?

@Xkeeper, what is a "cursor meter" good for? And what the heck does "mP" or "MP" mean?

Lots of questions, you see...

Windows XP uses the same kernel and drivers as Windows 2003. It is much more reliable than Windows 95/98/ME. It is still not as reliable as Linux or BSD.

It is not suprising that he is using Windows, as it is his desktop computer.

I think a cursor meter measures how much the mouse has been moved. MP must mean megapixels.

Flip that. It's a server on Windows. And there isn't anything stupid about that at all. With the proper user, a Windows server kicks ass.

"It is still not as reliable as Linux or BSD."

Depends on who the operator is.

Anyway, it sucks that his server is more public now. I've been going there for over a year now just to poke around. Oh, and back in the day I found this.

But when I found it, it wasn't ip protected. I told Ace about it in irc and he fixed it. I forgot what it was but I think it was something important that you could interact with without it needing a password.

No password protection? Blurp. You could just spoof your IP and you're done, woo.

"And there isn't anything stupid about that at all. With the proper user, a Windows server kicks ass."
The question is just, whose ass.
Windows' main problem is that it is what it is that means, if the average l33th4xx0r encounters a windows machine, he thinks, "window$, micro$hit. i'll pwn ya." and goes ahead. If he encounters a linux machine, he thinks, "linux rulez." and leaves it alone. Also, most PC users are more familiar with windows (a) and windows is far easier to overview than linux (b), the consequence is that a PC user can much easier find backdoors/errors/whatever on a windows machine. And IP only protection doesn't at all point at a "proper user".

Linux, BSD and Windows are totally diffrent in build. Thought I actually like the root mode thing they have in Linux and BSD. I would like it if Microsoft implent something like that.

Which they already did, but it's not that secure.

But true, it's on the operator. I doubt Acmlm would install Linux on that computer just for his server as he also use that computer for everyday use.

Linux is harder to set up, it's a nice stable and safe OS. But it's so hard to set it up... especially if your very used to Windows. (but I learnt to use the terminal quite quick...)

It's supposed to be his personnal server. It's everyone that knew it. I don't think you'd need Linux for that, just like I use Windows for my test server, nobody use it 'Cept me.

It wouldn't do you any good. It only works for his IP .

What I meant is to spoof your IP in order to make the remote machine think you have Acmlm's IP

You would have to find out what his IP is, first.

...Nevermind, It would be easy as hell.

Dosen't do any good spoofing your IP address, you won't get any packets back.

DOS attacks works that way, sending alot of ping packets with no real IP address.

So you can't hack into stuff in that way.

No, you're thinking of SYN packets. But close enough. It's the classic SYN/ACK DOS attack.
