Mr. Bungles excellent "Disco Volante" is probably my favourite album of all time. Other than that, stuff like King Crimson, Crass, Mephiskapheles, Frank Sinatra, Skinnerbox and the like

Been listening to a lot of Melt Banana lately too. Thumbs up to The Screeching Weasel's "Jeannie's Got a Problem With Her Uterus" n'all, really annoys parents

Oh, and this song is awesome!!!! I don't really know how to explain it. But no matter how many times I hear the song, I never get tired of it. They also have a really awesome CD. If you like GothMetal you should check 'em out.

Power to the people who are HardCore.

How about you list the metal bands you know, and I (And possibly Ziff) list the ones you need to start listening to

Right now, "Temptation" by Slayer. This song is a part of what I play on a regular basis on my guitar. The guitar parts are fast and awesome, and with the exception of Kerry King's solo, it's incredibly awesome. It may sound a little cheesey or stereotypical to modern-day listeners, but that's because Slayer is the band that made this kind of stuff the "stereotypical" metal image.

I'm listening to Tablets of Fate by a band known as Melechesh. This song is pretty decent. It doesn't reach out and bitch slap me like I want it to, but I enjoy it. And the Melechesh themselves actually. I don't really know any background information about them so I can't help you there.

Now I'm listening to Purified by Lamb of God. (Not a religious band as the name might imply) This comes off their 2003 album "As the Palaces Burn" which is soooooo much better than the one they came out with this year. Not that it's bad or anything, but like I said, it doesn't compare to this one. Lamb of God has a great heavyness and anger to their music and if you're looking for some new metal, I'd advise checking these guys out. They hail from Richmond VA which is only about an hour away from I live.

They sing about alchoholism, war, terrorism, and politics. It's very interesting stuff if you're in to both politics and metal. Oh, and they are anti-Bush just in case you wanted to know.

Oh but I can. My neighbors FINALLY moved out. (One more noise complaint and I would be getting evicted) So I have a four day weekend (at LEAST) to blast music as loud as I fucking want. It's soooo great. I'm so used to headphones at this time of night. I'm going to milk this motherfucker for all it's worth.

Now I'm listening to Rejection Role by Soilwork. Awesome band, very awesome.
Just a random band I picked out from the metal section at Supernova. Again, I have no idea where they're from, but I love them. One of my favorite new bands (new to me that is) this year. Check 'em out!

EDIT: Well I'll be damned, I did some research and they hail from Sweden.

np: Twilight Singers: "Real Love"

Yes, it's THAT "Real Love". Only covered by the singer for the Afghan Whigs, among other people (I think Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees sang on this one). It's decidedly, well, nothing like the Mary J. Blige original. However, it kinda helps that Greg Dulli was one of the more soulful singers in early to mid-90's alt-rock. (Go listen to almost anything from Gentlemen if you doubt.) They take some of the non-sucky elements of alternative and come up with something that has a little of the spirit of the original, if not the same trappings.

Oh, and that's over and now they're covering "Hyperballad". Same sort of thing, recreating some of the elements of the original's electronics (this one's by Bjork, who we all know is > you) but making it their own.

I'm listening to the new Megadeth album that was previously mentioned by wite.
"The System Has Failed"

I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not, but damn, it kicks ass.

You can tell with the very first track that Mustaine is PISSED at the current political situation. Holy hell, he is pissed.

A few years back, Mustaine seriously injured his arm to the point where he thought he'd never play again. (If I remember right, he slept on it wrong or something.) But not too long ago, he picked up a guitar again after several months of not being able to play at all, and slowly started to pick up his skill again. It's amazing what he's come back from.

Now, most of the long time members of Deth aren't a part of this album but the good part is that Chris Poland, one of the original members, is back. And he has some amazing solos.

I am definitely buying this when it comes out on the 14th. It's hard for me to just recommend one or two tracks because the whole album is solid. But I am impressed, to say the least.

Since you seem to be into newer types of metal, I'd reccomend these artists:

Children of Bodom
Opeth
Meshuggah
In Flames
Dillinger Escape Plan (Beware, they are NOT easy on the ears)
Otep
Fear Factory
Lamb of God
Pantera (Thier semi-new stuff, try the album "Far Beyond Driven")

If you're looking for something different:

Megadeth has a new album coming out soon by the name "The System has Failed. I'd also reccomend the "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying" and "Rust in Peace" albums.

Old-school Slayer is great, check out the albums "South of Heaven" or "Reign in Blood", or possibly "Hell Awaits". They have a more nu-metal-ish album out called "God Hates Us All" as well, but I don't like it much, it seems forced.

You didn't mention Iron Maiden, check out the albums "The Number of the Beast" and "Powerslave". Iron Maiden is one of the biggest influences in a lot of modern punk and metal music.

I just got done listening to 'Episode 666" by In Flames. Heavy new-school downtuned guitar tone mixed with riffs that are more likely to come from old-school metalheads makes for an excellent song. If you brought up the tone of the guitar and made the singer more intelligible, I'd say this could pass for an Iron Maiden song.

you can find many of them at HXC RADIOU.COM, and at Solid State Records.

It's about FUCKING time you people posted here. I've been waiting for several damn days. >(

As of this moment, I'm listening to Anthrax's cover of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". It's not too bad, but I prefer the vocals of Ozzy more. (For this song, that is.) But for a cover song, which I'm not usually fond of, it's pretty decent. And the original kicks ass. =)

Lesse here, earlier I was listening to "Return of the Warlords" by Manowar. I think Elmo mentioned them in another thread. Downright hilarious lyrics. But they weren't meant to be. It's both corny and awesome at the same time. But that's Manowar for ya.

Oh, and Slayer kicks ass. Both Reign in Blood and Hell Awaits are classic albums which really helped put thrash metal on the map.

Hell Awaits scared the shit out of me when a friend of mine introduced it to me back when I was in middle school. But if it were released in this day and age, I doubt anyone would blink an eye at it. It still has that cool factor to it though.
The only thing that you might not like about it is that the production is kinda crap. I actually like it because it adds to the whole feel of the album. It adds to the whole raw feeling. Dave Lombardo's drumming really kicked ass too.

Reign in Blood, however, was amazingly produced by thee legendary Rick Rubin. It has 10 tracks on it (I think) but the whole thing clocks in at about 28 minutes. It's still an awesome album though.

Oh, and on the topic of In Flames. Avoid their last two albums like the plague. They're horrid.

Mitsubishi vs. Garbage - Cherry Lips Remix (Sort Of)

Before you say anything, this track was part of a theory page on YTMND. Supposedly Mitsubishi ripped off the same riff from Garbage. From what it sounds like, I would say it's true. I'm actually surprised they fit the entire song into the page, considering the file limit for these pages are only 1mb.

See it for yourself here.

DJ Kane - La Negra Tomasa

I have no idea what that means. I need to find out what tomasa means . I like dee song though. Nice beat, he has a good voice and it just blends well together. I saw him on a morning show I record Sat and Sun. mornings called "Desayuna Alegre" and he was talking about some stuff that I didn't understand completely but I got the whole of it. How long he was sepereated from the Kumba Kings and about his videos. He sang in the beginning and I liked it so I bought the CD. His style reminds me of the Kumbia Kings and K1 but he just doesn't look as good as the people in K1 but I didn't get his CD for that.

I'm listening to Revelation by Helloween which comes off the "Better than Raw" album. Which, incidentally, was my first exposure to Helloween. This album is pretty good, but pretty good doesn't exactly cut it when you're Helloween.
I should be listening to Keeper of the Seven Keys (I and II) or Walls of Jericho right now but for some reason I'm not. Those albums were clearly superior.

But still, I like this one for nostalgic purposes.

I don't usually reply to this thread this often, but I just got blindsided by a really awesome song...

Thousand Foot Krutch - Rawkfist

I only heard of this band just now, and this the only song I've heard from them so far. But, it is pretty awesome thus far. I guess it's sorta nu-metal, so if you are into the genre, you may want to give them a listen.

"Space Trucking" by Deep Purple.

This song is a very good driving and sing-along song. Come on! Come on! Come on! Let's go space trucking!

You know, I'd have a lot of hope for today's youth if they listened to bands like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. None of this angsty nu-metal shite. You don't know metal until you've dabbled into the dark mysticism that is Black Sabbath and the hard rocking party hard tales of a rock band music that is Deep Purple. Ritchie Blackmore and Tony Iommi are two of the most underrated guitarists ever.

I'm listening to Harvest by Opeth.

I'm not sure if I can find any words to describe Opeth. Every single aspect about their music is superb to say the least. The very least.

I first started listening to them back in 2001. As a matter of fact, it was a recommendation off of this board. (I think it might have been Abnormal Freak)

These are some of thee best lyrics I've ever heard. It only reaffirms that all the crap you hear on MTV and the radio (some internet radio excluded) isn't worth listening to. Whenever I hear someone talking about how good Evanescene's or Linkin Park's lyrics are, I feel like vomiting. They haven't heard ANYTHING.

This song is pure awesome in a canister. I love how Opeth switches up the vocals. Take the song Blackwater Park for instance. The very low growling type of voice. Normally I don't care much for this, but Opeth is the exception to the rule.
But then you take Harvest and listen to the vocals there....

And the use of the piano! <3 The piano at the end of The Leper Affinity.....now that is what a piano should sound like.

Sweden has some of the world's best metal, but I'd venture to say that Opeth is their finest. If you've never heard any Opeth, then do so. It will remind you what real music is and what it's suppose to be.

EDIT:

Christi

"Ritchie Blackmore and Tony Iommi are two of the most underrated guitarists ever."

When it comes to people who only limit themselves to nu-metal, yes. But I feel that they get the proper respect they deserve from all the rest.
Tony did such a great job with "Fluff". =D
