Try a program called Painter23. It is a program for saving GIF images that are more than 16 bit. i.e., saving GBA sprites. It does a good job of maintaining colour and quality. It also works quite nicely for saving SNES snapshots.

It isn't really all that difficult to get the rows of whatever you want. I would always get the 8-up in SMA2. It's even easier with save states.

As stated, just practice; the same goes with these 50 Bonus Stars plus 3UP when reaching the goal point and cutting the tape in its highest position; do that quickly and you'll reach 99 lives relatively fast ... only that one level, two before the Water Fortress, with tons of bouncing Koopas and a grey P-switch can top that in speed how to get lives quickly

Look at the status bar. Judging by the fact that everything but the lives are the exact same, I'm gonna say he did it with savestates.

I have'nt a doubt that those pictues are altered...
If the second picture by raptop was true, then why does he have the exact same number of coins and score?
The first one was taken a few seconds later and the pictures were clearly altered in paint; given that paint is capable of doing such a job without dithering.

The_Raven: I made a save-state right after i got in the bonus room, then I pushed the start button and looked where to jump to get three mushrooms. Then, after I did that, I pushed the start button again so I could jump and get two flowers, one in front of and one behind the mushrooms. Then I pushed start several times, not directly after each other, but to see where it would be best to jump so I could get three stars and when I found the spot I jumped two times and waited until the last box was in the right place so it would be three lines. Then I took one of the 1-UPs and took a screenshot.
Then I pushed F4 to appear at the beginning, before I jumped up to any of the boxes. Then I pushed start to see where to jump to get the flower, then I went there and jumped several times. After I did that I took another screenshot.

So, that's how I did, If you don't belive me, well, I can't make you to. And I can do it again if you want. I can even do it with Luigi...
