Alright, I had 3 ideas here, hopefully this won't start another big argument.

1) The addition of &xxx& tags (like 1116) that display the stats found in status.php.
2) The addition of tags that display the name and post count of a given user ID. (Ex: &username:1& would display whatever name Acmlm currently has, and &userposts:1& would display his post count.) Perhaps also one that displays powerlevel (&userpl:1& would display 3 (hopefully) because Acmlm = teh admin.) This would be more useful combined with the next suggestion.
3) The addition of a "custom header text" field. This would be a small (maybe 1-2K) text field, one per user, that would be inserted just under the FAQ/Color Chart/etc links. Any HTML could be inserted here, including &xxx& tags, and would be displayed there. Javascript, style tags, etc would be enabled, because of course, only the person who it belongs to would ever see it. Here's an example (saved and modified page):

Now, I already know what you're gonna say. "ono another database field omg well all be teh dead". That's why it would replace the Post Radar (seeing how one could easily recreate it using some javascript and simple HTML tags, even the &userpl& tag with some JS to show the right name colour). If more space is needed, one can simply include it in a Javascript file by doing <script src=something.js> - the file could even be on their own HD. (Again, nobody else would ever see this text, so if you screw it up, it's your problem. )

So... think about it.

I basically did #3 on my board. I reaplced the, "You are now logged as username" message with a customizable Welcome message. It allowes you to use HTML if you desire. And, since only someone logged into your account can see it... It's available at the AcmlmBoard Hacks Archive.

And all it does is add another field to the Users table in the DB. Since it's only shown on index.php, it isn't queried every time you click a link.

What's the point in a custom message in the header on every page? I don't see any use nor fun in it, and it's just a waste of space. Especially allowing any HTML in it is just asking for trouble because some people aren't supposed to use it.

If they screw up the tables, then it's their own damn fault, and their own damn problem. I have no sympathy, since it will only affect them.

And frankly, I find it to be very useful on my board. Since AcmlmBoard doesn't have an admin panel, I use mine to put some adminly links that I can click on from the main page.

^- What he said. One can put useful links and bookmarks up there. I (using Proxomitron) have status.php displayed in the top left via a <div> tag (and conveniently enough the view count shows through the gap above the last 2 boxes), and my post count (copied from the post radar).
