I've been dabbling in hacking now for about four months, and I'm working on a SMW hack that is Matrix themed. "The Mariotrix" Is what I hope to call it when it's finished. Anyways, I wanted to change some of the music, but I don't know how to import new music. Kinda noobish, but I've never signed up for any forums so I just looked around hoping my questions were already answered.

Ask Bouche.

He's the one who managed to put SMB1 and SMB3 music in SMW.

Matrix? I dunno.

You can't.

Well, that's not quite true, but the process you're describing is MUCH harder than simply importing music from one game into another.

If I recall the way it's been explained here correctly, the SNES music works a lot like MIDI: There's no actual "music" but rather a bunch of instructions saying "Do this for this long at this time" that all come together to make what we hear as music. The reason it's not as simple as cutting and pasting is because each game has its own basically proprietary way of storing the music information. In other words, you have to compose the new music yourself.

In hex.

If I'm wrong on this, someone can feel free to correct me; I want to say that someone was working on an editor for this type of thing, but again I could be wrong.

well i know that most snes music is in .spc or .sp3 file types which have an intro, and then go into a continuous repeat, but, i found a dos program on the rom hacking repository that said it could import .wav files into the hack. I downloaded it, and had no idea what to do. the instructions were wierd, and it was too confusing so i turned to this board.

I think I may know a way on how to get music into this game. I found a program that lets you VIEW the music from ROMS (SNES, Genesis, and NES I think). It gives you the option to hear the music, view it in ascii (I think but Im not positive), dec (Im just taking a guess at this not even sure if it does), and hex (pretty sure but again not positive). So if you said that putting the songs in as hex would work then you could view the hex of the song to be inputted, and the hex of the song to replace and then just copy over the hex to the SMW ROM. I know the program supports at least one of the above codings so even if it wasn't hex then you could maby convert it? I don't know for sure about any of this, its just a guess that may or may not work. Thought I would through it out there.

i THINK THAT IS THE PROGRAM i JUST POSTED ABOUT. (sorry for the caps, caps lock was on). Anyway can you view and see the coding with that program?

im not too familliar with any of those (especially hex) and i need to find a few programs: 1. a program to edit mp3 or wav and export them as .spc or .midi or .acii and then i need a program to get the music into the game. Does anyone have like all the information i need? I doubt it.

This I'm a little more qualified to speak of.

The short answer is that no such program exists.

The slightly longer answer is that, while there ARE programs out there that will convert MP3 to MIDI, the two formats are so different (As I mentioned briefly, MIDI isn't so much music as a bunch of instructions sent to the soundcard) that the results will be complete crap, and it won't even be worth it.

Depending on how good your ear is, you'd probably be better off just transcribing the MP3 into MIDI form. Even then, you'd still need some way to get it into the ROM, which carries the problems I mentioned in my first post.

Mushroom, thats what I originally thought too but then shortly relized, just saying it is alot easier than doing it.

BTW its FuSoYa not what you said.

I think that the program you found is the same one that I found too. It can import music into ROMs but the question is will it import into snes roms. I do have a program, although only a 30 day trial (which I hack regestry codes to allow me to have it for ever) that will convert many music types to many other music types (not the spc sp3 types but MIDI it does have) Its called Blaze Media Pro if any one wants to give it a try.

What would be really cool, although it would never happen, is if FuSoYa and Blackhole teamed up and made a Lunar Magic that had black holes music thing ported in. That way everyone would be happy and it would give ROM's more uniquness.

The hell. How would that work exactly?

1. Stop relying so much on FuSoYa and learn to mooch off of EVERYONE

2. This would be no better than using the programs in sync and coding them together would just take more time

well this program wouldnt be able to take like enigma and burly brawl and put them into mario it would be two impossible to convert them to spc and all the other music formats. I would still be screwed i could give it like megaman music, but not the matrix. I might as well settle with the getto mario i made by changing two things: adding sunglasses and making his palette almost black + white

I was just saying. I think waht Fu has done so far is amazing and thats why I think that the possibility of porting would be a great idea. and thats why he could get blackhole to help him.

That is true with the second thing you said KKC

Ok. If you want to ask questions on this editor, please post in that thread as this thread seems kind of useless. You should post in that thread for music anyway, as blackhole seems to have all the answers for you.

Sorry if I sounded like staff. It is just common sense though.

I was just at zophars domain and he has about 3 spc tools there but I have no idea if they are any good. I was also searching google for 'spc music converter' and I found an interesting program that rips music off a rom and saves it as mp3 or midi. now if only I can find one that will save it as an spc...
