It depends, really. Where did you hear it from?

Forgotten isn't developing VBA anymore. Development's now being headed by a new programmer.

You heard it from who? That's bull.

Someone took it over, Forgotten left and handed over the project to someone else who's developing additional stuff for it now.

Like there's really a problem with VBA now as it is.

Well, it's nice to know that VBA will still be developed in case some new protection/save types/etc. come out.

Might not be much to do with the program/emulation itself, but things can always be tweaked.

And even then, there could be new features added. Like link cable emulation on the same computer...

Not the first time this happens, and the source code for VBA is there. And that's a good thing, other people can work on it.

There are still games that have problems in VBA. Namely:

Classic NES series
Shantae (GFX errors, it looks fine in BGB)
GBA Video (I think)
F-Zero GP Legend (slowdown during races)
Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green (a bit slow in certain battles, usually if started in the grass)

It could use link cable and SGB border support too.

Doubtful. My CPU is 1.1ghz, and it only does that when battling in grass. Every other battle location plays at 100% (the grass runs 95%). However, F-Zero GP Legend is worse. The emulation speed goes down to 80% in a race. Special effects (as in the DKC2 mist) cause slowdown too. GBA Video is viewable in RBA, but not VBA.

Since there appear to be more like these, I'm going to start writing a compatibility FAQ. Anyone wanna help by testing other emulators and games?

It's easy to see why he thought that. Development has been abandoned by the original designer, but someone else has taken over.

compatibility FAQ...i guess NGEmu doesn't have one?

as for 1.1GHz, if it is a celery (a.k.a. celeron), then maybe that is the case. but maybe there is something going on by the way that piece of data is handled when emulating the game...oh well, 95% is better than 77%

The Japanese F-Zero Falcon Legend runs perfectly, IIRC.

Yea, it was probably supposed to be added that he has a slow comp. I mean the 3D environment takes a bit out of my 1.0 GHz comp as well but it's nothing too big.

And as for link cable support...uh...I believe Forgotten posted something about that on his site that I copied and pasted a while ago about the fact that it'd take a 2Mbit transfer rate for it to work...so don't expect to see it anytime soon. Maybe multiple instances...but I doubt it.

Hiryuu, I mention this because my comp is 900MHz and should be fine, but I've experienced slight slowdowns with the European F-Zero GP Legend, but never with the Japanese one, and I've hardly even played the Euro version.

Neo, have you played the original FZFL? That might be a smoother game to enjoy if you don't mind reading katakana.

Huh...that is something then...never played the version outside of Japan so I didn't know...but I would wonder why.

But why get the original FZFL if you can just get a copy of the multi-language European version?

(Why yes, they do get some perks before us.)

where do i come from? I've never played a single F-Zero game in my life... anyways, I have a computer fast though to play all GBA games... As for original FZFL, i dunno...i'm too slow at reading non-kanji text...i need kanji to parse better XD

If it is a celery like HH said, then 900MHz is like a Pentium 3 - 450MHz...but i'm not sure what kind of video processor you have however...

I'm pretty sure my processor is a Celeron. It's a Hitachi Prius laptop.

Now that the multi-language Euro version is out I suppose everyone will send away for that, but for a few months a lot of people were importing the original game from Japan to wherever they live, since this isn't a game where a lot of reading knowledge is required.

And what's even better about the Euro game is that some of the cars which were e-Reader only in the original, are now accessible! I wonder if the extra courses are stashed away somewhere...
