After 3 months of production, a public demo is finally ready for reason in this hack of SMB3. I won't go through the changes in this hack except for those that are not explained in the read me.

Speaking of the read me. To obtain the IPS patch contained without the .zip file, you must download the file below and extract the it. Read the read me file. Through reading it, you'll come upon the password needed to extract the IPS patch in Luigi.zip. Why did I do this? To prevent getting asked multiple questions that can easily be answered by glancing at the read me file. (Thanks to Vystrix Nexoth for this idea).

SL_TRCQ.zip
If you can't download this, then get a better browser or get it from someone else

So what's so cool about this hack? A lot of graphical effects have been employed to make the hack much better looking than Mario Adventure ever was. Most of the TSA in the game has been hacked. There are now 16 frames of animations for animated tiles. There is also a new foreground engine, previously missing from the original game, which is also used to create fake transparency with objects such as water.

This is a one player hack without saving. You can re-enter stages after beating for this demo only. There are multiple exits in 2 stages (the screenshots sort of give that way). One stage has 3 exits, where as the other has 1. The pipe in the center of the map can be reached with the one of the secret exits in one of the stages (thanks to hacked lock block data).

There is a hidden Frog Suit block, Tanooki Suit block, and Hammer Suit block in 3 of the stages (not all one all three, but 1 in each) of this demo, so search for them!'

The introduction of the game has been changed to a more simpler logo display. Also, the status screen that appears over the map when starting the game has been taken out of the game completely, so you jump right into the game.

The patch was made with Super Mario Bros 3 (U)(PRG 1).nes. Enjoy this public demo and any comments or suggestions are greatly welcome! (btw, the screenshots give away some things about the game, so when in doubt, look at the screens!).

And thanks to Parasyte for fixing a few bugs and Lilmario for thoroughly testing the hack so that I could bring you this demo today!

Bah, did you have to make this a public release so early? I mean, you could just give it to me.

In some levels you need to collect all coins, I didn't realise that when I did the beta test so I was lost in a level for long time before I realised what the objective was.

At least you stated it in the readme know. That's good.

If anyone wants patches of earlier versions, then click here.

Best one worth playing is the very first one (07-04-2004) because it's totally different.

The graphics are very w00t, especially the water. I'm not a big fan of demos though.

If I may make a few suggestions, which you may listen to, or just laugh in my face:

A longer time limit would be nice, considering how complex the stages are. I feel like I need to rush a little too much, and not be able to "explore" more. I'm sure it could be done easily; the question is whether or not you feel longer time limits are needed, or whether anyone else feels so as well.

Not as easy would be a sound effect when your "breathing time" is almost up would be nice: I don't know how feasible it would be for you, though. I've died a couple of times from simply "forgetting" that I had to breathe .

I particularly like the "beach" stage: not surprising to you, I'm sure, considering I've done something like that with the water in the background in a few levels of the (not as good as yours) hack I'm working on.

Don't know yet whether I'll like it more or less than Mario Adventure; guess I'll need to wait for the full release. Either way, you're making the hack I'm working on look sucky in comparison, which is good for you, anyway .

I already had one complaint about the lack of time in one of the stages. If others agree with this suggestion, then I'll easily extend the time in most levels.

Even though it's a demo, it's still fun. Anyway, you should increase the time limit (although so far I've gotten all the red coins without running out of time), because often I end up with 10 or 20 seconds left, barely making it.

You are kindly welcome! Though you haven't included the pallete fade bug fix.
Also, I noticed a bug when Luigi changes form near a hidden red coin. The block that is hiding it will flash with fugly graphics! (a good place to test this is the level where you need to bounce on the buzzy beetles to get across the spike pit. (I hate that part so much. Never have made it through there without touching the spikes.)
Another bug is if you let the para beetles fly all the way to the right side of the stage. The tiles for the giant ?-block will get screwed until they leave the screen. (I've also seen something similar with the one moving lift in the stage. The one which moves to the right when you jump on it. That's what I'm talking about. I Don't know what caused it to get screwy, byut I remember jumping (to get off the damn thing) when it happened. *shrug*

If that's the stage I'm thinking of, then you don't have to bounce off of them to make it across unscathed. Try searching against some blocks in that area, you'll get a little item to make it easier to get across

Also, the Toad is green and has strange text when you start the game. It also looks like Mario is playing the N-spade game.
