Not me. SomerZ: Yes but that only applied to GERMANY. The fact Greece is coached by a German has nothing to do with it. Greece played defense like their lives depended on it but suddenly woke up in the first half - and it paid off. First Silver Goal of the tournament. Portugal vs. Greece... Oh dios mio. |

Bah! Otto Rehagel has applied German-style coaching and tactics to the Greek team, and that's what has made them good! Now, forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this make the Czech Rep. the first team ever to lose to a golden goal (Germany 2-1 Czech Rep, 1996 Euro Final Match) and to a silver goal (Greece 1-0 Czech Rep, 2004 Euro Semi-Final Match)? And likely the only ones given how UEFA's putting the Silver Goal on the shelf after the Euros.

Hm, I read an article here which statest that the first golden goal actually came in the 1993 World Youth Championship, but, well, A - Czech lost the first match in a major tournament then, if this statement is true, and B - I doubt the authencity of this article, since it also claims that Porto beat Celtic in the 2003 UEFA Cup Final on a silver goal, which Porto did not, since their goal came in the second half. Personally, I think the silver goal is kind of stupid. I can understand that it is a security hazard to have frustrated fans who go from Heaven to Hell in 0 seconds (though it was pretty much like that for the Czechs today, too), but should then not the PK's be removed, as well? Personally, I think a system much like Hockey, where you play 15 minute golden goal extra times until one winner is decided, would be the best way to go. Of course, it'd suck if you got to the 10th extra time period without noone scoring, but what are the odds of that? |

Yes, the Silver Goal is crappy. Keep it to the nice and simple Golden Goal: A mistake and you're most likely out.

They could have tested out the rule in the 1993 WYC. I wouldn't be surprised. Technically Porto did win on the Silver Goal rule. It's really silly to call it that, but for all intents and purposes they did. I wish they hadn't but... |

Crybaby Ruud is about to learn that even though you're an extremely overrated striker playing for Man Utd you're not allowed to do just whatever you want. UEFA will decide today whether he should be punished for the way he yelled at Anders Frisk after the loss to Portugal. I hope they give him a great, big fine, and also let him know that he's horribly overrated and, for his reactions against Frisk, an extremely bad loser. The guy needs to come down to earth.

Ruud should blame his team mates. He didn't get much balls in to make a signiicant change to the game. A disappointment

I guess he deserves it. I don't think it will hurt Netherrland's world cup campaign much though. Any predictions for Sunday? I think Greece will win 1-0. Their defense is FABULOUS. |

Speaking of which. Totti 3-match-ban for spitting + Italy only got to play 2 matches in the Euros after his ban + Next Italy Qualifier is against Norway --> No Totti against Norway --> Me happy! (edited by The SomerZ on 07-03-04 06:43 AM) |

YEAH! ...Although Totti's useless to begin with. I'd dare say RVN > Totti. |

...I love closing ceremonies. They give me goosebumps. Anyways, this was the game I expected. Portugal pushing forward and Greece drawing back. Only difference was that Portugal gave up a corner, looked really sloppy on the ensuing kick... and BAM. Greece deserved this. How can you say that a team who beat the hosts twice, drew Spain and beat France and the Czechs were "lucky"? Both teams had hard paths to the final, but in the end... Greece were a team. From start to finish, they put in a total team effort. TSN ended their coverage (after a 1 hour post-game show) with a music video - Forza, by Canadian artist Nelly Furtado. The official song of Euro 2004 - and in Greece, they'll be saying "Forza!" for many, many nights to come. Congratulations! |

HELLAS! My aunt's family in Greece are in Athens city centre partying right now... Portugal deserved to win, they would've savoured the oppertunity in their home land, but Greece deserved to win too. They've worked extremely hard all the way through the competition, and were in my eyes the most impressive team |

Worthy champions of Europe. Too bad that they're in a World Cup qualifying group with Turkey (!!!), Denmark and Ukraine. But I think they'll pull through with performances like they showed in this championship. |
