Imo, all the dkc series, and YI: SMW2. They really showed how good snes visual and sound/music effects can be (edited by Aioria on 06-05-04 07:40 PM) |

There were some really good SNES games out there.. the one that pushed the SNES to its fullest I think is Star Fox. It did pertty good with the polygonal stuff that the SNES had.

Well, I guess I'd have to say Starfox. Personally, I think the graphics are UGLY as all hell. Seriously. They're hideous and hurtful on the eyes and make the game less fun to play. (Here comes the flame ) But honestly, it's amazing that the SNES could actually pull off something like that in the first place, thus my answer to this question. |

I gotta go with Donkey Kong as well, those games were great. I'd agree with Starfox but not so much as DKC cause the images weren't as refined as they were in DKC.

Rock N' Roll Racing. Never was the SNES' superiority over the Genesis in the sound department as blatantly obvious as when you compared the two versions side by side, listening to the music. |

Starfox/wing doesn't really count as it uses the Super FX chip in the Cart, so it's had a little help, same goes for SMW 2

Stunt Race FX, I played once the US Version, and this is even fast (Have the PAL version here, is somewhat slower). And Donkey Kong Country isn't that resourceintensive for the SNES, it just got its prerendered graphics. But I would more say Kirby's Dream Land 3, Yoshi's Island and Tales of Phantasia. |

Some of Chrono Triggers effects are pretty cool. For instance, the world map at the Lavos Ending. And YI is really cool. Starfox is pretty ugly, but as has been said, it's more Ooh, 3d than Ooh, pretty gfx.

I think hating the graphics is a bit much. They look a bit outdated when you play again on Zsnes, but on the Tv screen they look much nicer... And they were smooooth. And compared to most other 3D games, like... Um... Well, others. There are others, they're just lost on me at the mo... But compared to them, StarFox looks pretty gorgeous. The smoothness is the best part. Mmm, smooth. It's not like the graphics were garish. At least I sure don't think so. Yoshi's Island was probably the most technically advanced game. ...I don't know why Kirby's Dreamland 3 would be. O.o'' |

While we're talking about 3D games, what about Doom? Sure, it looks pretty if you're standing one meter from the TV without moving, but once you actually play it, it feels like The Marine is on crack and drunk at the same time. It lags like hell (or whatever), you can't see enemies that are standing still 5 metres in from of you, aiming is really hard... Oh, and you can't save, and if you want to play multiplayer, you need two TVs, two consoles and two games. Yay. Really, it's amazing that the developers managed to cram Doom into a SNES cart, but appearantly, they were so happy that they accomplished the feat that they didn't think about making sure the game was playable. Wolfenstein was the same. Laggy and unplayable. Jurassic Park and Toy Story were the only SNES FPS' that worked, and they weren't pure FPS either (plus, they weren't any fun, but that's not the point) |

I would say Chrono Trigger as well, or either Earthbound, just because of the pure size of it. Admit it, graphics never made a game anyway... |

Techincal wise, Doom for SNES is amazing. Gameplay wise... ugh. I just tried the Snes version, same levels, same music but hellalot lower resultion. It explains why I have still seen old Doom SNES carts in stores. Originally posted by AdamantEh... how? This sounds really wierd for me. (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 06-06-04 07:18 PM) |
