Hello there fellows, I know some of you but you may not know me, I'm not a newbie to ROM hacking, but I never registered on the new boards.

Still I did a couple of post on the old old board, as I'm following this site since the SMB2 Discombulator days. I'm the author of Metroid Cubed, or as some call it "Metroid Skewed", a volumetric 3d conversion of Metroid 1. As I remember, it got a Lukewarm reception here
(I didn't post about it, I just followed a referer from my stats tracker and lurked)

Anyway these are not exactly skills but I have good knowledge of the SMB 1,2 and 3 and Zelda 1 level format and very good knowledge of Metroid, including many things not documented by SnowBro (probably some of this is in it's commented source code though, but parts are unclear) . I have a Metroid editor that is almost finished for sometimes, you can try it online on my page using Shockwave , wich seems to be very popular here... not!

There are other things in the works that you can see on my page, but as far as ROM hacking is concerned, F-Zero and StarFox are the games I'm trying to hack these days. I found very interesting things in Starfox that reveal how the level are stored (though I dont know where in the ROM yet) I hope to tell you more about it soon. As for F-Zero, see my revealing post about it in the rom hacking board.

Well that's pretty much it for now

Well it's better than nothing

I'm a little too enthusiastic about F-Zero being cracked it seems and didn't spent much time on that newbie post.

Anyhow thanks for welcoming me

By the way Acmlm you are credited in the help text of the very old and primitive online SMB2 editor (as well as BMF54123), just click on the mushroom. A little easter-egg for it to make it more useable, type doki doki in the big yellow text field and click Draw level (or load level I'm not sure anymore), it will load the data from level 1-1.

As for the 3d Zelda 1, the version on the Metroid Cubed page is completely different that the one you saw a few time ago, it has been rebuilt from scratch and you can now rotate the playfield (at only 4 discrete angles though) and change the lighting in real-time.

Oh well I don't know what to say anymore than that, I feel too much pressure

Hey there non-newbie newbie.

I tried the ROM-hacking thing some time ago...decided it wasn't for me, as a complete hack (Of Sonic 2) required far more time and attention than I was willing to give. Nonetheless, I picked up enough along the way that I can generally follow what's going on in any given hack discussion thread.

So, uh, welcome back!

VL-Tone, your expertise in F-Zero is very much appreciated! I've been wanting to hack that game for years and am just getting started on actually doing it! Your comments on tile formatting are a big help, and hopefully we can all work together to get a new game or level editor created.

I'm new at this board as well, so I don't know a lot of the people. Don't let that stop you from posting!

Thanks for all the kind comments from you...

I keep forgetting that this board is not only about ROM hacking but still this is why I'm here

Yeah cracking F-Zero is fun as tons of new info is discovered these days.
I hope this leads to something, if not, I'll make the editor myself

I also hope my finding in Starfox will create interest in cracking the level format.

That would be good if you made the editor.

I remember when that link was posted... Ran like CRAP on my old PC, to be honest, but I guess it's about time to give it another go.

Welcome to the board.

VL-Tone, I installed SHockwave, but the game didn't run at all -- no window even; just your page's regular background with nothing on top of it. The screenshot, though, were excellent!
