I've got some questions regarding DVD burning and PS2. 1) Will an unmodified PS2 even play a burned DVD? (This being a compilation of my own, so no copyright protection stuff would be at work.) Any specific format? 2) A lot of DVDs have options for things like subtitles, alternate soundtracks, etc. How would I make something like that? 3) Should I go with + or -? 4) What's a good cheap burner I can get? Something that won't die in a month but doesn't cost more than the average computer. 5) Is there a specific compression format that has to be used? How good is it? (For example, how much space would a 50MB AVI use up after being converted?) |

1. Yes, if you have some form of memory altering device and willing to break some functionality of a PS2 (the one method I know requires to you no longer make the disc tray automatic) 2. You won't lose anything 3. I believe -R is the way to go but my modded PS2 has trouble with many burns. It is not that it doesn't work, but it is very tempermental in starting. However, if I burn the game onto +RW, then my PS2 isn't tempermental 4. The ones by BTC are decent. Anyways, a decent burner goes for around $70-100 USD 5. What does AVI have to do with PS2? |

1: Not really. At the very least, you would have to pry off the disc tray door. I would recomend the solderless swap chip though. 2: Don't worry about it. Trust me when I say just go and make an identical copy and then just leave it alone. 3: For a ps2 game on a DVD, you should use either Maxell or TDK DVD -R discs burned at -- 1x --. For a ps2 CD game, go with Memorex CDR. 4: The only drive I feel confortable recomending (only one I can vouch for) is the Plextor PX-708A. 5: Most of the good software takes care of this. You should have the following programs. With them, you can do ANYTHING you want. Most of these programs are pay programs, but one should be able to find them for free on various peer to peer networks. If you need any "advice" in that area contact me on AIM. Alright, let me just clarify some stuff.... -My PS2 is completely unmodified, and I want to keep it that way. All I have is ATV Offroad Fury 2 and a Network Adaptor. -I'm not trying to copy a DVD, I'm trying to make one of my own. I want to throw together some various AVIs I have, and was wondering what sort of size I can expect after converting one of, say, 50MB. I also want it to have a menu like most commercial ones do in which I can toggle various things. -I'm not trying to play any actual PS2 games. |

gee...missed that DVD Burning part 1. Yes it will, I played bootlegged HK movies with my PS2 in July '03 (the PS2 was modded in Oct '03) 2. You need software to create a DVD. There are DVD creation software outthere but I'm not familar with any. Why don't you try a google search for "DVD compliation software" or something like that 3. - is the unofficially endorsed standard by movie picture association or something like that. However, regardless of +/- format you burn, the end result is still the same, a disc with DVD-ROM format 4. um...my original answer still holds 5. I better question would have been to say my 50 MB AVI file is x minutes long. Then I would respond, current recordable DVDs only hold 120 minutes of movie FYI, my two cents on using PS2 for DVD player -- ain't worth it. The PS2 laser is really bad to begin with and having the laser run for extended continous periods of time isn't a good a thing. |

Only 120 min? Ouch. It's 30 minutes long, but there's a lot of them. (Anim | |||

burned DVDs as in burned DVD movies will play fine. the analogy is a CD player can play burned audio CDs right? on the other hand, burned DVD games are different story... |
