As the headline says. I especially mean the "atmosphere" of the game (for me, Chrono Trigger is far best in this), but also story and related stuff like soundtrack quality. If you know any more, tell me. These are the ones I played. [edit]Ack. Poll editing doesn't work (SMRPG). And as for Terranigma & co, let's say, including Adventure games too. I don't see where the abstract difference between Terranigma and Secret of Mana (which is being called an RPG) is. The battle system is not (and, as I think not enough to distinct two genres). WTF. This is blashphemy. You left out Super Mario RPG. Die. And dammit people, Zelda != RPG. It's called Adventure, quite a bit different. |

Originally posted by HyperHacker Yeah ... the same goes with games like Terranigma or Illusion of Time; a neat level up system and riddles do not make an RPG, since you battle directly without giving commands only but moving, performing moves etc. On the other hand, there are exceptions like Star Ocean or Tales of Phantasia As for the RPGs, I'd go with FF VI, since it only has a basic story; but set up very good, humourus and also sad or very exciting moments, and the dialogues simply are great ... ("There is sand on my boots! " - Kefka to his soldiers; or "Mr. Thou!" - Gau to Cyan ) My second choice is not mentioned and would be Rudora no Hihou. Ignoring the technical aspects (fully animated enemies, great graphics and soundtrack) it also wins besides its even more crappier story: An ass-kicking magic system which allows you to create your own magic-spells; also not too easy since the more devastating spells consume up a very high amount on MP; items like Tasty and Horny Waters are limited to 9 each; so you have to save your herbs and potions very wise (especially dealing the MP); especially in the chapter boss' battles with tons on HPs (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 05-31-04 12:47 PM) |

I personally love Final Fantasy IV. I've played through that more times than any RPG ever, save for Ys I. Of the choices on your poll, though, I'd say Chrono Trigger. It was everything that an SNES RPG should have aspired to be. |

I chose Secret of Mana. I like the music and fighting system. Not to mention all of the exotic locales you visit as you adventure through the game.

Being a Chrono Trigger Freak, I am going against the grain and voting for Illusion of Gaia. It was one of the best for it's time, action, rpg, puzzles, mesmerizing music, and solid graphics and story. *chickenlump's eyes tear up, and loads up Illusion of Gaia ASAP* *Sniff* That's better... |

Man we should just use FFV for SMRPG's spot because I don't think anyone's going to vote for it.

Blashpemy ! FFV ruled! Ignoring techincal aspects, I'd ay it was the best of the above Maybe the plot was slightly weak, but I still liked it.. The whole "split world" concept was cool (and hopefully that was vague enough to not be a spooiler)

Illusion of Gaia sucked. It sported terrible graphics and an even worse story line. As far as blasphemy goes, also note that Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia are not here. WTF (edited by Weasel on 06-01-04 12:12 AM) |
