Okay, you may recall that I posted something on the programming board about making an EXP bar. I've got that, as several of my posts here attest to. This is not one of those posts. My question basically pertains to the use of Javascript. Is it even allowed here? I have some simple operators to do what I want (Mathematical operations with some of the variables here) to present a convincing "enemy" bar. The problem is that the script doesn't seem to work at all. So I'm wondering if it was disabled for security reasons (I may have heard something to that effect). If you're curious, the script is as follows: < { var enemypercent = (4957 / 50); var enemyleft = ((5000 - 4957) /50); } < It fills in the numbers okay, but doesn't process them from what I can tell. Thanks! |

Scripts are automaticly removed. Allowing scripts makes it easy to steal accounts and perform other mischief. I can think of a couple ways to sneak a script into a post, but they would not work too well for what you are trying to do and there may already be countermeasues in place for them. | |||

Understood. Thanks. Looking in the profiles, there's that bar that I presume measures how close you are to 5000 posts. That's pretty much EXACTLY what I want to do (Except in reverse)...the problem is that viewing the source doesn't let me see exactly what he does to make it (Unless I'm just too stupid to figure it out), just what the end result is. If I could remember what happened to make that take place, I could actually put the second bar underneath HP and everything would be great. |

those bars are generated server-side, using PHP. only the end result (image widths, etc) is sent to the client. you could, if you were so inclined, do something similar, if you have PHP-enabled hosting available, and link it in as an image. as far as any client (or, more to the point, the board) is concerned, it's just an ordinary image; no security risk. |

So, what you want is a bar that goes down as you get closer to 5000? Test... Nah, that didn't work. Maybe you can convince Acmlm to add a "percent of 5000" variable. (edited by HyperHacker on 05-30-04 12:49 AM) (edited by HyperHacker on 05-30-04 12:50 AM) |

Hmm...I thought I posted that I mooched my old code of Acmlm? That must've been the other thread. Anyway, I have it now. Without getting too deep into the nitty gritty, the solution involves putting the table with the bars inside of another table. How precisely that works, frankly, even I'm not quite sure, but it does. |

The one I made uses the &tags&. You can use a table with cells whose width is dependent on & (edited by Kasumi-Astra on 06-02-04 07:57 PM) |
