This is my first thread at the new Acmlm's...of course, it's a poll.

I was just curious as to whether Acmlmers prefer older or newer videogames.

I like the old ones myself...I still play NES and SNES (mainly on emulator), I prefer 2D over 3D, and good graphics don't mean much to me. (Ever played Kroz? It's a DOS action/adventure-type game made of the (extended) ASCII character set. You're a smiley-face character, and the enemies look like the letters "A" and "O".) The only new games I might play are strategy games, like Age of Empires and Civilization.

I can't say that I go back and play old games. Some may have more content, but I dunno, there are enough new games out, that content-wise can match up and have the looks.

I prefer 4-bits (Atari, Coleco, Intelly), 8-bits (NES, SMS), and 16-bits (SNES, Genesis, TG16) over 128-bits (GCN, PS2, X-box).

EDIT: X-box is only 64-bit!

I like the old better, partially because I can't afford much of the new, but also that the old just seem a lot better in terms of gameplay.

I say both! Look at the older games, they were harder. Metroid, you couldn't duck, you didn't even had a map or something telling were to go, (that's how I liked it ), other games, one hit then BAM, you're dead! In newer games, you got health, ect.
But still, I like them both equally.

Probably both... older games were definately a decent challenge compared to some stuff that comes out today, but there the new ones just seem to last longer for me.

There's a lot of great old games and a lot of great new games.

Basically there's been great games made all throughout history, so you can easily pick and choose. I prefer old... but as long as it's not too complex, I'll play it.

definately both, i have xbox, ps2 and snes all hooked up to the same tv. Older games were made less to make money and more to be a good game regardless of how much it may sell. Ill play rainbow6:3 for 2 hours and then go on a firepower2000 binge, i love that game.

Banedon, you totally suck.

When I was eating dinner tonight I was thinking "I'll make a poll, Retrogaming vs Next-Gen Gaming, I'm sure Banedon will like it."
Well you beat me.

But I must say, the only recent next gen game I have bought would be Ninja Gaiden. Now compare that to what I have bought for my Snes within this last month, FFIII, StarFox, Jurassic Park, Killer Instinct, KIrby's Superstar, Mario Kart, and F-Zero and been playing my Snes like mad.

Yep, Snes owns. = Retro powered.

But I do play some new games, but not recently.

the old ones had the best classics and my fav games too, which i enjoy until today. SNES is my fav ever, and some NES games are pretty good (all the 6 megaman games ).

but there's some new stuff cool as well, c cross rocks, i finished long time ago and i miss it as i miss C Trigger's times (CT is much better imo, tho )

And those new FFantasies at PS2 must be awesome, but i havent had the opportunity to play them already

I perfer the old video games, mostly because I like the old style gameplay. The snes games that I like are Mario All-Stars and Zelda Lttp, one of the best classics ever.

Both hands down.

I like some newer games than the older ones in some series and the older ones in others...

But in general it's both.

I'd have to say both. While I love my C64 like a little brother and my Megadrive, there are good games coming out for PS2 and all that. I think there's not such thing as a 'Golden Age' of gaming, every console had the excellent games and the so-bad-they're-really-bad ones.

Old games had horrible graphic engines, so they had to concentrate on gameplay to sell. New games have great graphic engines, so they can sell even with horrible gameplay. Thus, the old games are better.

And I do hope you know in that post I was jokingly being sarcastic, since I was looking forward to making a topic basically just like this.

And I think Mighty Kefka just spoke from the bible, so true...
