Right now, the GameFAQs gang have pitted Super Mario World against Chrono Trigger. I just know that CT's going to win and be placed against Final Fantasy VI when it beats out Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in the next poll (as good as Zelda is, I don't think it stands a chance against FF), and then what? There's going to be a contest between CT and FFVI! I don't know what to even think of that, but I don't think I'll be able to vote. Mind you, I don't vote all that often on these anyway, but still... What would you go with? My apologies in advance for posting yet another of these polls, after the board's been swamped with them in the past, but the competition seems as good a justification for it as any... |

IV over CT. But not by much...CT's a very decent game in it's own right...it's just FFVI has a lot more popularity than CT does, it's a better known series...and it's better than most of the other FFs in that series. If CT did win, that would be interesting to see, but I doubt it happens. |

I don't see how you can have so many different genres pitted against each other... how about comparing games to their own genre, like this poll? Anyway, neither has class changes and such, so... I'll go with FFVI. Better plot all in all, more character development, and some better villain(s) as well. I mean, c'mon. In Chrono Trigger, the only baddie worth mentioning is Magus. Who in heart is a good guy at that. |

You have to remember the CROWD that goes to GameFAQs. In Division 8, you knew that it would end up Mario 3 vs. Zelda in the final. Very obvious and FF1 isn't going to steal as many votes as the later versions. In Division 16... I think I had SMW over Chrono. In any event, two Square games. Doesn't surprise me one bit. Division 32-64 will likely be FFVII vs. Zelda: OoT. Again, that surprise you much? Finally, Division 128 is tricky... SSBM could beat FFX but the fanboys will likely rule that one. You'd THINK that Starcraft wouldn't make it to the final 8 but then again I didn't see it going that far to begin with. (I only had Halo going to Round 2 anyways - not to the final four like some people. ) |

"I don't see how you can have so many different genres pitted against each other... how about comparing games to their own genre, like this poll? " Zelda will beat Mario because of the fanboys. GameFAQs users know shit. FFVII will win. |

The fact that Starcraft beat Kingdom Hearts, frankly, shocks me. From hanging on GameFAQs for four-plus years, the general trend was "Square RPG = Instant win LOLZ". Kingdom Hearts has enough RPGish elements that it should have fit that description. Not that I care, because I didn't enter the contest and I'm done with GameFAQs, but eh. To answer this poll, I wouldn't classify Final Fantasy VI as much more than "above average" to be honest. In particular, the second half of the game feels like Square went "Kefka's a revolutionary villain! HE SUCCEEDED IN DESTROYING THE WORLD!!!!!...oh shit, we need a second half of the game, don't we?" and then threw together a bunch of pseudo-optional sidequests to piece said second half together. In short, Chrono Trigger destroys it as far as I'm concerned. |

Originally posted by Emptyeye And yet, doing all those sidequests helps unravel the parts of the plot left veiled on all those characters earlier on. Which is worth it. They didn't just scrap it together. If you want scrapped together, look at Lufia 2 once you get the submarine. They didn't even take the time to make a room with graphics in the undersea place where you meet Daos! As for CT, there's a lot of good things about it. A creative plot, some good emotional parts, and just some flat out kickass areas. But I think that the plot complexity of FF6 and the character development helps make it beat CT by an eyelash. |

Ah yes... I always forget mentioning music. The music in FF6 is slightly better than CT too... actually, EXTREMELY better at times.

Nothing beats the classic feeling of FF VI Dozens of chars, a large variety of hidden stuff like Espers, cities, mass of sidequests in the second part, twice as much average playing time than C.T., woot ^^ Chrono Trigger also is a ass-kicking good RPG, no matter, time travels, an absolutely lovely final battle theme, but FF VI beats it all, despite its less colourful graphics |

Tough choice, but I'll have to go with Chrono Trigger, since the graphics (please dont kill me for this statement) are more, well "alive". And I find the story more interesting. But both are great games nontheless.

Heh, I always vote on Mario when he appears on a poll. If I like no of the games I don't vote and if I like both as much... I vote on the one with least votes. Chrono trigger is a great game... and overrated... (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 05-26-04 10:32 AM) |

Originally posted by max Not really. SoM just took all of its gameplay options and such from Final Fantasy Adventure pretty much, so it's not like it was a groundbreaking-new-wowza-with-lots-of-innovative-stuff game. And the story of its predecessor, FFA, was better than SoM's. The only thing SoM had over FFA was graphics, and that is only because of the console it's on. Heck, the MUSIC of FFA is even cooler than SoM's, IMO. So, in short, SoM is a good game, overrated by many, and should have been voted out in the first round FFA didn't even make it into the tourney, did it? It should have. It certainly is better than SoM. Seiken Densetsu 3 on the other hand... though that's also very similar to FFA and SoM gameplay wise, you get so much non linearity and difficulty in that (it took me a year to beat it the first time)... it would have to be considered one of the greats. Now I'm rambling on and being off topic, too, but I just thought I'd show my thoughts on why SoM got knocked out. EDIT: Oh, and SD3's music is just pwnage. (edited by Kefka on 05-26-04 11:14 AM) |

My vote goes to CT, because *i* like the graphics, music and storyline. Did i mention it has the most kick-ass battle system ever? (edited by knuck on 05-26-04 12:02 PM) |

Seiken wouldn't have made it since it didn't receive an American release. I'd take CT over SoM anyday, so fanboys or not the right game won. I like SoM but CT was just extremely original and involving. |
